Default Which mids to go with my new supremo tweets?

Don't have room for bigger than 6.5, but have plenty of depth.

I can give them 175 @ 4 or 225 @ 2 (Kicker ZX850.4).

Going in the door of a Tahoe. sub is DIYMA, H/U is eclipse 8053.

Am considering Supremo SW6s (if I can ever find them for a lower price), or Dyn 162s - would ideally like to be around the $200-$300 mark.

You can look dyn 162, Morel MW1664.
I even found the Dotech ovation midwoofer to be good sounding when powered it 150Rms or more. It has a higher Qts of 1.09 which is good for IB use. Also spec wise it looks good.
Have used them, they have a good off axis response

I am running the piccolos with dyna MW160GT and they pair up great. I would love to try out the Supremo SW6s but like you said hard to find at the right price.

Pioneer 800PRS, Morel Supremo Piccolo, Dynaudio MW160GT, Morel Ultimo 12, Rubicon 202, Rubicon 702, Rubicon 1002

I am also running the 162GT's with a set of piccolos. I'm not crazy about the combo. The Dyn mid is too inefficient for the tweets. Or put another way, a more efficient mid would keep up better with those Morels. I'm running 150 to each tweet and 300 to each mid. While it sounds great, the GT (and most other Dyn's) will require a crap load of power compared to what you throw at the tweets. Just my experience.

I agree , I had the Dyno MW182's with 330watts of Se goodness going to them, but it did sound like they were out class by the Morels, so i went to the Supremo 9", Perfect!

There's several reviews on this driver on the forum. I'd be hard pressed to spend Supremo money, when Parts-Express, Meniscus, and Madisound have so many great drivers for much cheaper.

Zaph's website is a great place to start and read reviews.

here are what I have narrowed it down to for myself.

Hertz ML165
PHL 1330
18 Sound 6ND430

If you are running the mid in a door, the Hertz would be the way to go, the other 2 have way to low of a Qts for an open air space of a door.

Kind of gravitating towards the 18 Sound myself. They would play from 80 to 2.2kHz

I don't think those will be efficient enough. They are listed at SPL: 86 dB 2.83V/1m and are 8 ohms. If you go with an 8 ohm speaker you will want something +3dB from what you have now (if what you have now is a 4 ohm driver) to get the same amplitude, otherwise it would kind of be like cutting your wattage in half, which is 3 dB down. So if your amp is rated at 175, an 8 ohm speaker would play -3dB or it would see the equivilant of 87.5 watts from the amp.

Your Piccolo's are 90dB (2.83V/1M) and are 6 ohm drivers. If you are running 2X the power of what the tweets see relative to the mids (lets say 90 watts per tweeter and 175 per mid), then you would want a 4 ohm mid that is 89 dB (2.83V/1M) or higher. If you want to run an 8 ohm driver, you would want something that is 91.5 dB (2.83V/1M) or higher. Also, the 8 ohm drivers will most likely have more dynamics, which is a good thing.

Almost forgot, another speaker to look at is the ID X65 and ID X57. The X57 has more surface area than the 6.5. Both speakers would match up sensitivity-wise with your tweets.

While I respect your thought process, it's really not that cut and dry.

My recommendation would be to buy what interests you and install it and tweak from there.

I get ya, but if he gets a mid that is under efficient and is building his system in a 1:2:3 power structure, he's going to disapointed with the dynamics of the midbass/midrange. Just food for thought.

Also, take a look at the Dyn650's. They will work better in a door. They are more than the linked one's above, but less than the SW6's and have a crazy +/- of 9mm which equals lots air movement.

Madisound is in MI, your in CA. There is no sales tax, but there is a warrenty. Do what you want, but I'd get them from Madisound. You might want to look at the graph on those though, the off axis at even 20 deg. below 100hz isn't very good. Might kind of suck with you being over 20 degrees from the drivers door.

If you take a close look at the plot it is good to about 2200hz, but the plot was done at a 8ohm load, I by the way did have a chance to demo them and they did very well, the OP is trying to pick a driver that blends with the morel supremos which i also have, and had a chance to demo many drivers with them. i am just offering help from experience.

OK, not trying to argue, but they look like crap below 100, especially off axis and you can't fix that with an eq and get any output from the speaker is all I'm saying. He can do whatever he wants. I'm sure they will work fine for him

I too have the Piccolo's
