Hey guys, Im recently a new member to this forum and have already been given a bunch of help, and professional opinions... but im stuck.
Just began putting together my system, and i am just completely overwhelmed with the amount of great equipment on the market these days, and i just dont even know which direction to begin looking.
For years iv been interested in the 2din head units and finally got the go ahead from the fiance to go for it Now, i have no idea what good/junk.... I have been researching Soundstreams VR-769NB so far and like what i see but im really curious what your opinion is?
What 2din head units to you guys run?
Im looking for a good quality 6.5-7", while remaining afortable. Navigation is great, but to be completely honest i wouldnt use it often enough to pay a considerable amount for. and my last question,
Is there anyother special equipment that also needs to be purchased for installation? Currently Running factory Unit (2010 Dodge Charger)
(Besides normal wiring harness, dash-kit, antenna adapter)

If you have steering wheel controls that you want to maintain, typically a retention piece will be needed if the Soundstream has wired remote in capabilities.
Also, all dodge's after 2008 (I think, it may have been as early as 06) need more than a basic wiring harness as accessory power is controlled by one of the computer modules. Typically, you can use a Pac Audio C2R-CHY4. I'm sure there are others, that's just what I have most experience with.
Nope no wheel controls. I did a little research on this before and dodge also had approx. 5 different stero packages for my year, my vehicle has the basic 4 speaker (6x9) non-amplifed set up. From my research iv come up with the Metra 70-6522 harness, with Live ran to the 12v cig liter, which i have found online for $13. yesterday i swung into a local Audio Shop and they mentioned the same part number, except at a price of $89... please correct me if im wrong
The 70-6522 should be no more than $20. Sounds like they were selling you a data module or adding labor to run accessory, which in that car is less than a foot away at a cigarette lighter
Check out Crutchfield.com they don't sell "junk" and they don't have the "best" prices in the world either, they do sell 100% authorized and whatnot... just a good place to look around...

Ok, thanks guys! Hey, one other quick question for ya guys. I was just comparing a few 2din to each other and i ran across the power Acoustik PD-769NB, which is another real nice HU which has the Navigation, and info Soundstream VR-769NB is not euqipped with Nav?..... But it says the Nav-1 box is sold seperately for the PD-769NB. The PD-769NB just makes my budget but that nav-1 box will bump me up an other $100. I would assume i can purchase the PD-769NB install/operate fine without Nav Box for now, until i can purchase the navbox?
Am I reading that right? Are those model number's near identical?
/googles
Hey, look at that, the same interface with vaguely different faces.
Neither come with nav, they're the same price and have the same functionality because they're probably from the same manufacturer.
Also, neither are "real nice", they're cheap stuff.
But to answer your question, yes, it will operate fine without the navbox.
As stated before, i am new to all this. I am shopping within a budget, and neither may not be "real nice" but both would make my fiance and child extatic to have the opportunity to simple have something to keep my daughter content on car rides. I am not looking to compete with anyone, nor break any sound records, only to purchase something within a fair price, and wont burn out on her like walmart crap.
Thanks for the help everyone has given us so far. The soundstream/pa equipment has been appealing due to price, im shopping for something within a $350 range (+/-). All opinions greatly appreciated :-)
If you shop wisely, you may find an older Pioneer Avic 910bt or something of that erra, for around that pricerange. Not trying to be sarcastic and maybe save you some heartache, but the soundstream and poweracustic stuff is just fleamarkit garbage. I'd hate to see you waste money on something that is not reliable and you may have to pull in a week. Check the classifieds here, or even ebay. I see great Kenwood and Pioneer navi decks new and used for that price dailey.

There seems to be quite the disdain for the Soundstream and power Acoustik models discussed here. How many of you haters have even seen them? I have not seen them, but I prefer to take such comments as "fleamarkit garbage" with a huge grain of salt.
Having a son in law getting burned by their crap is enough for me. And yes I've seen them in multiple flea markets. Any other questions?

When you take into account free shipping and the free installation kits, they are pretty competitive. Also dont forget the tech support.
Might wanna check Amzaon, Ebay and Newegg for prices.
I personally dont know much about car audio, last car I had had an Ecclipse navi in it with PPI amps, had crossovers equalizers and 15" sub in the spare tire well custom built, that a friend installed for me. He was an audiophile.
I know this though. If you pay $300 for a stero that cost $700 in other brands you prolly will suffer in build quality, sound quality, ease of use and so on and so forth. I would stay away from those and get a cheaper Clarion, JVC or Pioneer.
just my 2 cents

P.S. currently shopping for a stereo myself and having a hard time deciding what to get. ClarionJVCList of Pioneers
Edit PPS: Also don't know what people think of this site SonicElectronix but they also have alot of products and ship free with the install kits. Got some cheaper units that might do the trick for you. Never heard of SoundStorm but...do a search on here.
