Going to be replacing some speakers hopefully next week, and they are 4x10s,in the upper rear of a 99 Tahoe 2dr,and was thinking of putting a pair of 4in coax instead. Will that sound much better, even though Ill need to modify the area with ABS Plastic for mounting?Ive heard that 4x10 speakers are pretty much not worth replacing, and it would be better to put a set of either 4in components, or a set of 4in coax.Is this a true statement??Any input is greatly appreciated.
It depends on how picky you are and your budget. You can get 4x10s from Pioneer, Kenwood, Kicker, and other companies. I don't like cutting down on cone area just to switch to a round speaker, but you will have more options with a 4" coaxial or component set. A lot of people believe an oval speaker sounds worse than a round speaker but that's a myth.

Well, I feel like a set of 4in coax will be going in then..it will be worth the trouble to modify the location, and give more options as stated for better/more power handling/sq speakers within that location..There are Kenwoods in now, and are pretty beat up,so Im looking into a set of Polks to replace.Thank you for your opinions, and experience..I really thought id get more responses, but these few are enough for my decision.I thank you
