after googeling "what the hell is Qts" "4ohm vs 8 ohm" i want home speakers in my car" all answers point to this site. i am excited to pick everyones brain to help me build a unique car theater environment.
for amps i have 4x JBL BP1200.1 and 3x plasma sphere power acoustik 620-2(the ones with the lightning show on the front of them). my "head unit" is a computer with a monitor on the windshield
i have a commercial truck that i work in 40+ hours a week and the bulk of my time is spent waitng to load and unload so i have a tv on the windshield that i use for maps, paperwork, internet, movies music etc.
i have a local speaker guy that will build me most anything i want IE:4-8 ohm dual, single voice coil 6, 10 inch 12 inch 18 inch. when i had this much selection i realized i did not know enough to order the speakers i needed.
the last 2 speakers i bought were kicker 12" L7s. (square ones) when i win isd a box i ended up with 2x 7 cubic feet wit an additional 2 cubic foot port in each box. these effectivly produce all frequencies between 29-31hz at 160dB and almost nothing else. needless to say they were kind of a waste of time and money. and so annoying to the point of painful while trying to watch a movie with them.
from my research i think i want a qts around .30-.36. im not sure why yet im just going off of what people are telling me. these are almost exclusivly for tv/movies. i need help being steered in the right direction. i would really like to be able to use 4 subwoofers 8x 6 inches and some tweeters in there somewhere. and a rack mounted equalizer
i really want carbon pulp cones but i was told that a heavey cone with stiff suspension will help the longevity of the speaker in a vibraty environment like a car, thus raising the Qts. true? false?
whoa whoa people not everyone jump and yell so quickly!!! please everyone will have a turn to offer me some advice .
i think i found my answer. 4x JL w7 12"
if i can get 4 of these badboys into 8-10 cubes in a horn loaded cab, think i am going for it.
i asked some questions and it seems carbon pulp light efficient stuff is super space hungry and i figure if im going to go with low VAS stuff, go big or go home right?
anyone have an opinion on these? what is a reasonable upper crossover point for these? they seem to advertise they are for a high-fi application, but they are only 86 dB speakers which makes me hesitant.
