Default Infinite Baffle Subs

So, I ended up with a 2010 hyundai genesis coupe. It currently has the infinity audio system that is slowly being torn out and replaced. Already replaced the HU with a 80prs, and amp rack is in process of being built. I am not to this stage yet, but will most likely be my next step once the "trunk" is built. Regardless, my question is, what subs are you guys running/recomend for IB??, I am planning on firing a sub through the factory 8" hole. If I have to cut it out a little bigger to fire more through it I will, my plan was a 10" but upon recent thinking (since I am running two 8's as midbass) I am thinking a little larger ie. a 12".

I (and chevbowtie22) have tinkered around with IB in two cars. (1) 2012 hyundai sonata: 10" kicker comp firing through the factory 8" hole. (2) 2000 cadillac sls 12" kicker comp mounted in a factory IB hole. I work at best buy, and after reading through all the manuals we have here for subs, it came out that comps tend to work best for IB this is why we ended up running these in these cars. Now, these customers were not huge SQ people by any means, they just wanted to fill in the bottom end a little without taking up trunk space. But to me, these subs sounded accurate, but sloppy... more or less loose I guess is the best way to put it.

I am thinking the new Alpine Type S 12" but wondering if anyone has IB'd one of these subs yet? or if there is anything out there that I should really keep my eye open for. My price range is really in the $150 range. Maybe a little more if it would absolutely by worth it. If I could get a sub from best buy that would be best since I can use my employee discount on it, but its not a necessacity... since we dont carry the best of all product and I do want SQ. Oh, and just if any of you need this information, I am running a kenwood KAC-9102d which is 500@ 4 ohms and 850 @ 2 ohms RMS of course... thanks guys.

you will laugh, but people have alot of success with the pyle 15". cheap, enough xmax for IB and supposedly sounds ossum.

JL W6 series are a good choice too, although more than you wanted to spend.

actually I am really not lauging at that, because I HAVE heard that, or read it somewhere. But I plan on mounting this below the rear deck firing through the 8" hole... how big do you think I would need to cut that hole (if any) to get the opening large enough? Ive always heard 1.5X the size of the driver you are shooting it through.. meaning a 12" is the biggest I can go with a 8" hole, of course meaning it would have to be a 10" hole for a 15" driver right?

Just about anything that works well sealed will work as good or better in IB. The JL W6/7 Morel Ultimo, Pyle 15, ID Max and IDQ, or my favorite and designed specifically for IB is the IB15 by acoustic elegance.

Never really been a sealed kinda guy. Ive always leaned towards the ported end of the spectrum. How can I tell (other than hearsay) what works well sealed? I saw someone post on another thread that Alpine Type R's work well sealed... but i've always noticed those want a ported box that is farely large... thoughts on this becuase I currently have a type R 12" and if that'll work, ill rock that

Several good ones have been listed already. The majority of the subs out there work well sealed.

What you can expect from IB is the same output potential as sealed but with much lower power requirements on the low end. Response is usually flatter and they dig deep. But since they dig deep with ease, it's nice to have a good amount of displacement.

So in theory, since most woofers work well sealed, most woofers will work well IB'd?? Is there anything specific I need to look for in specs when choosing? I saw high xmax? Anything else?

also, no one has really responded on the size of the whole I can fire through... any specifics on this?

This is essentially what I am trying to do... but prettier. This is what we did in the Sonata, we had to do 3 layers of MDF to get passed the trunk tension bars. If you noticed, they are going through the dynamatted wooden rings. This is a 10" shooting through an 8" hole, and it was fine.

But those arent there in my car, so I am going to just use one piece MDF to get a flat mounting surface. I am thinking I will do a pyle 12" if I dont have to cut (being that is the cheapest method starting off) without having to cut, and if I need to go bigger from there I can, but again, if I do go bigger, will I need to cut the factory hole larger??
