I need some opinions and/or suggestions on picking an amp for a new daily driver install. I'm not doing anything too fancy and I'm more concerned about SQ but would like to play it a little loud from time to time. I'm trying to keep it between $200 - $300 for the amp, but will spend a little more if the quality difference is there. Here's what the amps will be powering:
Fronts - ID CTX65CS
Rear - ID CTX 65
Sub - Alpine SBR-S83V
Right now I'm trying to decide between 2 Powerbass amps, the ASA 1100.5X which is a 75w x 4 class A/B amp and the XAX 5670FD which is 100 x 4 class D. My concern is the sound quality between the 2 and the power ratings with the speakers that I'm going to use. Any opinions either way or maybe a different amp altogether? I was using an Alpine PDX-5 before, and was happy with it, but thought the sub output was a little weak.
It's not Tchaikovsky. But it's still music that people like and that people want to listen to. Therefore, the goal is to meet that demand. When you let your audio system dictate the music you listen to, you've lost.
I have considered this amp...is 75x4 enough for the ID speakers or do you know if this amp is underrated at all? Should using class D for full range be a concern anymore?
For other options above that price threshold, I would suggest a Kenwood XR-5S,
used JL 500/5, Memphis Belle or maybe even a Zuki.
That JL 500/5 looks like it might work...do you know much about them, like are they underrated etc? I agree, i don't think I'm going to find an XD700/5 for $300, but I would go up to $400 if I had to. I don't want to over do it for a DD, but I don't want crap either...
I checked out the Aura amp you mentioned and it looks nice, but l worry it might be under powered for the ID speakers. Am I worrying too much about about 40w vs 100w for components?
I'm guessing I should avoid Powerbass since no one has said anything about them. I hadn't heard of them, but a Google search said they were decent.
I am in a similar boat. Going with the Arc XDi805. MSRP is $469.00. I don't think you can go wrong with it. Does 80x4@4ohms and 400x1@2ohms. Small footprint and uses the new Philips chip.
