Default Best $60 Sub?

Yes I know, that's a contradiction in terms but of all the cheap $60 subs which is the best? Way too many options to be able to sort through them all without some better informed opinions.

Forgot to mention - SQ not SPL is important to me.

Check the classifieds on here. I bet someone has a $100 sq sub in great shape that's in your budget. If buying new, can't help ya there. Lots of budget subwoofers sound pretty good as long as you don't expect too much in output. MOST of the time it's all in the box and install, but some subs just don't have any hope whatsoever.

OEM U-Connect 8.4a, JL Fix 82, c-dsp 6x8, JL XD800/8, Soundstream TN1200.1, stock rears controlled properly by minidsp 2x4 with rear fill plug-in, ID15, SB Acoustics SB17NRXC35-4, Seas Neo Aluminum...HASTE MAKES WASTE

That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid, the "no hope" subs. Thanks!

What size subwoofer are you looking into? What impedance are you needing? How much power? A good chunk of us on this forum (me included) are sitting on equipment that's either new or gently used but just don't advertise for sale unless we see it might fit someone's needs. If I see a good deal and have the funds with possibility of using it I pounce on it.

A single 8" or 10", I'll be using a Planet Audio AC1500.1M Monoblock:

1500 W MAX Power, 1 Channel 1125 W X 1 RMS @ 2 ohm 563 W X 1 RMS @ 4 ohm

I'm going to build a custom slotted box tuned to somewhere around 36Hz, I primarily listed to classic rock and hard rock/metal but some of what I listed to still booms.

Thanks for the help!

Your best bet will be to find a good deal on a single used sub.

two great options but I suspect neither will be enough for the op in a car..i loved the tangband 6.5 but I killed it trying to overpower road/wind noise.

my first thought is a jbl gt5 series ten or if your budget will stretch just a tad, alpine type s ten.

"you will need to use all 31 bands on the eq, qualifying a speaker as better cause you feel it needs lesser eq just means you're not listening closely enough."

Ok, I'm down to 2 options:

JBL GT5-10D
Image Dynamics ID8 D4 V.4

I found both for pretty close to my budget.

I seriously think that GT5 and Type E (older one with non accordion surround) do really really good for what they are!

Out of the 2 you listed, get the 10".

And out of left field, 2 of these! http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-...oofer--295-484

I have two I'm my truck in slot ported boxes. They're great.

I did a build with 4 of them ported and the output off 200 watts was just unreasonable for what they are.

I love my JBL GTO804s. But I also run 4 of them. Got them for about $60.

I have a great Diamond Audio D3S which sounds amazing. If you were closer I would totally sell it to you for cheap! It has sat in my garage unused for about 10 years now. It needs a home.

Yes, they are great for SQ. A lone they lack serious output, but 4 of them fixes that issue. Still not going to dig into the low 20s like a good 12 or 15, but that's where the beauty of cabin gain comes in.

I like them, they're definitely over achievers. But a quick run through the reviews makes that no surprise. They have to be ported though when used as a sub, sealed they quickly go from sub bass to mid bass.

I bought a single SVC 2 ohm Punch 8" P1, then I just bought a second one. Got them both for $60 on amazon used. I figure if I want cone area 16" is better than 10 Gets decent reviews. Now I have to redesign my box.

Sounds like you already pulled the trigger. In case you saved your receipt and have buyers remorse, consider the JBL Power series P-1000. I had 2 10" GTO series in 1999, they were good, but the power line is above the GTO, and below the GTi series. (don't know if the GTi line still exists) I loved my 10" power series until the drill slipped while installing it in a new box and went through the cone.
