If displacement is equal for both, the one with the flatter BL curve will generally have lower distortion.
Oddly enough, distortion makes a loudspeaker sound "louder", so often the grungier sub will sound like it 'hits' harder. (IE, a low displacement, high distortion sub will often sound louder than a high displacement low distortion sub.)
