One that plays low, the MW182 will start to beam at around 2000Hz, so you need a tweeter that will play loud below that. The MD102 will cross at 2K/12dB and still hold up to some abuse.
I've four Volvo 8" Dyn drivers (parcel shelf subs, IB in the Volvo) which I'm looking at doing some floor standers with, if they won't work they may go into another car at some point.
Pulled the spec off them with WT3 last night and I'm sure the spec are all wrong; I use the added mass method for deriving VAS and by using different weights it comes back with a different VAS and MMS every time
I looked at the TS for the MW182 and it states MMS is 36.5g, I'm pretty sure they use the same cone/VC/Former and soft parts for the Volvo drivers (re-tooling for Volvo would be too costly I'd hazard) and the closest I got to that with WT3 is 23.8g
If the MW182 models like the drivers I have the spec for they'd suffer from inductance based roll off-which wouldn't make for a good MB.
I've experimented with my 182s in a two way configuration and have run them as high as 1.6-2khz.
They will play that high, but personally, I feel that they operate best up to 1khz, and that a dedicated mid or wide-bander to bridge the gap to the tweet is a better bet.
'09 CTS-V Factory HU---> Rane RPM88---> Tru Billet 8S, Tru Billet 2200S, Tru Billet 4100S ---> Audio Devolopment MM12, Dyn Esotec MW182, Esotar2 430 (arrayed) & Esotar2 110
With that being said, would you recommend the Esotec 362 or the Morel Elate 9 3w?
Or even the Elate 9 2w
Not heard the morels but loved the 362 active in an e46, active on diamond d9 amps and alto mobile crossover.

With the drivers and specs I've pulled off my Volvo drivers indicated the same-started to roll off a little earlier,500-700 indicated in bbpro.
2kx2, if you have the MW182 already just add the 142s and 102s, you won't be disappointed
If you decided to go with the Dyns, I have a System 340 of which I only used the midbasses. If you're interested in my 100 and 140 with 3-way crossover, PM me.
I thought the Volvo used an 8" driver whereas the MW182 is a small 10". Dyn's published FR chart shows it going up to 2kh easily and they match very well with klippel results of some of their other speakers. Straight from Dynaudio, the speakers are not identical to the aftermarket offerings but how much different is unknown.
Regardless, I agree with Baron, I've used my 102 tweeter down to 2khz/12db at fairly loud volumes and it does fine. I also agree to add the 140/2 to the mix and be done with it. I really liked that mid. I ran mine up to 8k at times, who knows how it would have done playing higher. It's nice not having to worry about airspace behind the mid. You could always try those first, put them on axis and play them from 1khz and up and see how you like it before buying tweeters.

Damn good point, just got the tape measure out the Volvo 8" is WAY smaller. MACS has pulled the spec of the Volvo units, so hopefully ours will agree

Sorry, the bolded is going to HAVE to be used
Lol. I agree with most of what you say as long as I stay out of the off topic area which I've been doing lately.
I read on that old thread where DYN was quoted as saying they are not identical drivers but that could be purely cosmetic or mechanical, who knows. I would like to know for sure. It would be nice to save some money on the Volvo stuff if it's the same as the MW170
I'm guessing all of Dyn's speakers are measured at the largest diameter??. My "10s" have the cone area of most manufacturer's 9s. Slightly larger than the largest 8" MB I've seen but not a whole lot more.

I'm having a devil of a time getting any info out of them-and I'm a dealer! They say they can't give the info, only Volvo can-Volvo say they have no need for the info so don't keep it-WT3 is going to be the answer, if I can get it's accuracy up. I'll measurre some MW152 and see what Dyn say is their diameter so I can see how they measure it and do the same into WT3 with the Volvo drivers.
I'm interested in the results of the OEM vs aftermarket drivers. There's been a ton of speculation but no solid facts. This should prove interesting.
Also have to throw out the 110 tweeter, I believe it can play considerably lower than the 102 but it cost 100x more lol. I keep telling myself every day that the 110 would not be worth it since I run my midrange up high but every time I see a set for sale it's hard not to jump on them.
Nice sig btw.

So I purchased a set of used HAT L1 Pro tweeters. Would you recommend these with a 182 or 172?
Trying to keep the install simple. If I can get away without running a sub it would be great.
If I have to run a 3way I will. I am mounting the tweeter in shok pods in the a-pillars. I will be running an active system and probably using a JBL MS-8.

They say down to 1800Hz on 24db/Oct, so could cross with the 182, but you'll be at the limits of the 182's upper response
