Default 6 Ch Amp Screw Up

Help please I had a 6ch amp installed in my 06 Jetta. The car came with total of 6 speaker I the front door and 4 speakers in the rear door, I had the amp installed on the 6 front speakers and let the rear on the radio, anyway when I turn the radio up the rear speaker cut off and on. Anyway the installer I telling me that the radio is working harder now because of the amp. My question how if anything it should be easier less of a load on the head unit cause of the amp. Any input would be helpful, before I go to be stereo shop and wig out.

Sounds like one of the speaker wires is grounding out (touching metal) or your driving the speakers too hard, causing clipping.
Do you need the rear speakers? If you have 6 speakers in the front, would think you could just disconnect the rears all together and just play the 6 that are driven off the amp.

Someone else smarter than me should have a better idea as to why this is happening.
But, if it was me, I'd lose the rear speakers completely and just go with the fronts.

BTW are they factory speakers or aftermarket?

Keep Calm and Chive On!

Thumbs up Re: 6 Ch Amp Screw Up

If you use the original cd player, you MUST put a power resistor to simuate the presence of the rear speakers! Otherwise you will get no sound or cuts. Try a 10-20W 4Ohm resistor....
