Default TA question.

So I had briefly lost my tuning preset and was trying to redo my time alignment. I measured the distances from my speakers to the listening position roughly 31-49 inches depending on the speaker. My soundstage was nothing of it's former self. When I got the old preset back I checked the TA and they were set at the 195-210 inches range.
I am just curious if someone can give me some insight on this.

The delays were different, they adjust with distance when you put it in. They eq was different too. Does the EQ have that much of an effect on imaging?

I was just really suprised to see that high of numbers there and wondered if that was typical.

Time alignment works best when both left & right response match closely as possible. I'd say that's probably the hardest part (at least for me). The tighter the left & right acoustic curves you get, the more focused you can get with t/a.

So I finally did this. I have a Mac so I have to find a Laptop I can borrow for awhile. Any way, when I changed the TA to measured distances it moved the stage left 6" or so. I changed it back since it's was pretty spot on.

My midranges were distorting on strong female vocals. So I cut in different spots between 800-2500 and got rid of the distortion. Now I feel like the vocals are constrained and not as open. I have been doing this for awhile so I'm gonna take a break and see if I'm just imagining it.
