Getting about time to be in the market for some Home audio amps.......I need up to 6ch's as it looks and i'd like to have enough power for future driver upgrades.
I'm planning on going active in the home just like i did in my car, its so easy to simply tweak, and tune the sound to how "I" want, and better yet choose any number of different drivers i have sitting around to cover any range without building a new passive, etc.
First off i'd like to keep the amps, ie if theres more than a single amp, to the same line offering by the same people, so they need to match aesthetically, and as far as aesthetics these are going to be seen everyday, so aesthetics must be fairly nice. 2nd off power requirements are 50-75x4@8ohms and 150-200x2@4ohms for my drivers, not for pure unadulterated loudness but for dynamic headroom and plenty of power for future upgrades if i have power hungry drivers. There can be 3 2ch's, a 4ch and a 2ch, or even a 6ch. Size is of no concern, but stackable if possible.
I see alot of 6.1 or 7.1 recievers but i don't think they do what i want, granted if i use a 6.1 then i don't think each channel is full range, but i may be wrong, and if i am then there is a problem of getting appropriate frequencies to there proper places......
Right now i have a old Yamaha reciever that has 5.1 ability, it has RCA outs for the fronts which will be used for master volume/source choices, so i think i need to convert RCA into XLR.
I was planning on useing a DCX2496 for active processing so Balanced XLR inputs would be ideal on the amps, as well as IIRC volume pots for level matching on the amps, or either a outboard one would work if needed (i'm not exactly sure the 2496 does level matching the way i need (slightly concerned about level matching and the capabilities of the DCX2496, most likely only using channel level matching controls when tuning or tweaking)
I was looking around on Ebay and came across a Rotel RMB 1066, a 6ch 60x6 amp, dosent have enough power for the midbasses but is pretty much i think what i'm looking for.
My budget is as low as possible for the amount of power i'd like, but i really don't know that much about home audio amps, and PA amps, so not really sure where to start looking.
A good starting point on budget is <300 though for a 4ch and a 2ch in the same line.
Not sure if i want to go DIY for amps just yet, i think my knowledge on amp theory and stuff is way too primitive right now, but eventually in the future.
