Default crossover settings, deck or amp

hi guys, i have a question, should i use the crossover on the deck or amp?
right now i am usion the crossover settings on the pioneer deh-p8600mp deck, and my jl audio 300/2, 2 of them, one for front and one for back, the crossover settings on the amp are on the off settings, should i bypass the deck and use the amp crossover, or should i leave it right now?
front i have a/d/s/ 346is woofers and passive crossover, but replace the tweeter with focal tn-52, i have the tweet level on the passive crossover at -3db(low setting), have the woofer on the car setting. should i use the demo setting at all?
back speakers are a/d/s/ 336im with passive crossover.
im keepin my sub settings on the deck at 80hz at -18db slope ate 0, jl 500/1 setting are low pass 80hz, 1.6q 60hz center and +3 boost infrasonic is on at 30hz, have 2 12w3v2 in the h.o box.

Doesn't really matter, as long as you only use one of both (if you use both, you might get strange results). I guess using the crossovers on the deck is easier to finetune/adjust.

This is one of those things that never seems to get definitively answered. Isabelle, maybe you can offer up some explanation.

I have heard that "cascading", or "combining" crossover slope's is acceptable. Many say that a hu's slope and an amp's slope are additive. For example a 12db/ oct. on the hu + 18db/oct. on the amp = 30db/oct.

What's the real story?

Thanks!

There are different kinds of crossover curves: Butterworth, Bessel and Linkwitz-Riley.
If the crossover in the headunit is Bessel and the one in your amp is Butterworth, you might get funny looking things at the crossoverpoints.
If the crossovertype is *exactly* the same and the crossoverfrequency is *exactly* the same, the slopes will add up, but if there is a slight difference in one of both, you get weird stuff.

Just use one of both and if you get too much highs mid out of your subwoofer with an already low crossoverpoint and steep slope, you can always add the low-pass crossover of the amp at a higher frequency (let's say 80Hz on the amp if you use 50Hz on the headunit) to solve this, rather than setting them at the same frequency (but not exactly, since this is impossible!)...
