Default FS: Infinity Kappa Five - TINY 5channel class D amp

Product Brand & Model:

Infinity Kappa Five

Condition of all items:

Gently used, cosmetically 8.5/10 or better - as pictured. Not in original box.

Total Price: :

$200

Shipping Terms: :

Free CONUS, includes insurance.

Pictures: - Unless you are a Upgraded member, or your last 10 iTrader feedbacks are positive, you must post a picture of the exact item you are selling.

Additional info:

This is a great example of a barely-used Infinity Kappa Five. I purchased it second hand in 2010 (which is very early in the production of these amps) so I know it was not used much. In the past 5 years, it was used for less than 1 hour in a system I was building in my truck at the time.

Since then, it has been locked away in a cardboard dungeon just waiting to see the light of day. I do not have a proper setup to bench test it at this time, but the amp will be fully insured in case of DOA.

Cosmetic damage is limited to what you can see in the pictures, but I'll describe the flaws here that I can see: fine hairline swirls and scratches on the glossy plastic top part, minor wear on the bottom from being mounted to a hard surface early in its life, minor wear on knobs and connectors due to normal use. That's it, as far as I can tell it is perfect in every other way. I think I am being very critical here to call it an 8.5/10.

For those of you too lazy to Google, the specs can be found here on Crutchfield:

Infinity Kappa Five 5-channel amplifier — 50 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms + 300 watts x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com

Put one in a buddy's truck and he's pretty demanding on his equipment... Runs like a champ. Great amp. Good luck.

I got 2 of these, waiting for another family car project, I've used them temporaliy as back ups for when one of my DOA MS amps was replaced under warranty, very clean sounding amps, a PITA to figure out how to bridge the 4 ch with Y RCA s but once done, very happy with the power and sound.

Good luck on the sale.

Installed one of these in my brothers truck. Running 4 coaxial door speakers and a pair of 10" subs. Runs good. Clean sounding, especially considering it's entirely class D. Most 5 channels have 4 channels of A/B power and sub channel is class D. Only thing I didn't understand is why it has 80 amps of fuses when its only 600 watts total power. Underrated? It does get warm though, when mounting it, use some spacers to let air pass under the bottom of it.

Thanks for the recommendation, it seems a lot of people have had positive experiences with this amp. If I don't get any takers, I may end up being one of them.

I suppose the warmth issue depends entirely on your gain structure, when I ran this one for an hour it hardly got warm at all. But yes, class D has come a LONG way and this amp is a good example that it is now viable for full range use.

As for fuse ratings, they seem about right to me. I'm confident it makes at least rated power, as for being underrated that I'm not sure. Your 600 watt figure is an RMS rating, all channels driven at 2 ohms. The fusing probably has to take into account peak power outputs which I suspect could reach 900 or 1000 watts during normal use (assuming a few things, like a 14.4 volt input and 80 to 90% efficiency, which is not unheard of for class D).

Long-winded explanation bump...

It is a very nice sounding amp though. As far as fuses go, my Rockford 1000.1bd only uses a 100 amp fuse. The rule of thumb I have been told is 10 amps for every 100 watts, and by that rule, it should use 60 amps of fuses, but I think it is underrated. It drives 2 10" subs as well as my JL 500/1 and the Infinity is 200 watts less. I really couldn't hear much difference between the JL and the Infinity on the sub channels. And that is saying a lot by comparing it to a JL. On Crutchfield.ca(Canadian affiliate site) this amp sells for $700ish.

The amp fusing on the amps, is not always an indication for power, it's close but not always accurate, and with newer class D amps, amplifiers fusing can be even more confusing comparing it to the power ratings given by the manufacturer.

Okay lets stop with the electronics 101. This is a for sale thread, specs are in the link. And bump.

Edit - not trying to be rude. I realize this probably came across wrong.
