Tempting.
How low can one run them? Or do they get treated just like a 6-1\2"

You'd run them as midbasses or midwoofers. They have a ton of linear excursion so you can do both with these.

They're paper cone so you'll need to be cautious on your install if you live in a wet climate; some say scotchguard is a good idea however I can't confirm. Most stock car speakers are paper cone too but I have no idea about how they treat different paper cones. QTS tests around 0.58-0.6 so they're actually very well suited for in-door installs as far as suspension goes.

Chris - not to hijack your thread, but I know you're a big fan of the 12MU, why no love for the 18WU? Just curious. What will you be using in their place?

This is my second pair, I have a set of 18wu/4747t00's too which I'm using. They're the aluminum cone ones. They have a lower QTS and are more likely to be able to work into small-ish in-door enclosures than these ones.

So I have enough love for the 18wu to own 2 sets of them. They're excellent drivers.

The only drawback is the depth and diameter... and maybe cost.
That would preclude them fitting into a lot of places.

But Erin's review on the old Medleymusing site was about as positive as I've ever seen in terms of everything about the sound and lack of distortion(s, s).

So 60Hz... or what do you recommend?

They’re over $650 for the pair new, so cost is a consideration if you’re buying them new.

Depth is something also to consider if you want to put them in your doors. As always measure and see if they can realistically fit. Diameter is a plus in my eyes, more output for better midbass, plus lots of klippel verified linear excursion due to the advanced motor design.

Model them and see what you find, these drivers have a lot of testing available out there. They’re some of the finest midwoofers ever made. Excellent THD and CSD performance. These are best as midwoofers/midranges which need to “do it all”; go down to 60hz is while also playing somewhat high (up to 2khz). That’s why they’re expensive.

I listed them originally on DiyAudio but decided to list them here too. If you have specific questions I’m happy to answer them.
