Default Bass knobs

Who's running sub volume control?

I used to but I found I never used it so I didnt install one in my current system.

Thinking about adding one as not many people have heard audiofrog subs and it's a pain to go into the dsp to show them what the subs are truly capable of.

The question would be should I go with a helix controller or the jl bass knob?

Helix Director, hands down... I don't know how I ever lived with out this thing. Not just for the bass, but for everything else it can do, too.

Wait. You can flip the screen? In the helix pics, knob is on the left which would block my view but if it can be set to be on the right side of the screen that would be cool.

There is such a wide variation in the way songs have been mixed; escpecially in the bass region. One song is flat and the next one booms. It's nice to have an easy to reach knob to quickly adjust that. The one I have for the JBL amps connects via bluetooth to both my sub and midbass amps and adjusts up to 150hz with a shelf filter, so it works smoothly w/o making things boomy.

That is beautiful. I wish my install looked anywhere close to that.

Flipping the screen was a big deal to me, for the reason you mentioned.
Other than the terrible screen resolution, I love having the director.

Thank you! I've got to clean up the wires a bit and connect the lights that are in both the director housing and the dap mount...

So true. I run a dual knob with the VXi. Not only can you control bass output, but you can turn the highs down too. It's awesome! And depending on the song, I'm always adjusting it until the music sounds perfect.

Yes, I have cars. They have aftermarket audio.

The only reason I use the Mini Dsp remote is for sub control. I rarely switch presets. I agree with others. Sub bass is all over the place. Secondly, I've always been in to car audio but it wasn't always just about sound quality

Just because I have 2000+ posts doesn't mean I have learned anything.

I dont have that anymore lol.

I just went 2.5 years with no bass knob. I run my subs about 15db up at 32hz and 6 db up at 80hz.

I see people say that songs have a a huge difference in sub bass but some songs are written to have big bass and others are not.

My settings work for me just fine. It's never not enough bass and my front speakers thump enough that I dont even really need subs for the music to sound full.

If I want more or less bass I'll use the bass eq in my head unit. I prefer to move the subs and midbass together.

I have fantastic bass response and clarity and by using a shelf eq it stays locked together and never pulls to the rear like it can when you really crank on the subs.

You guys that feel like its "needed" makes me wonder how good your subs are blending to your mids.

They should be part of the music and just felt not heard. Dont get me wrong, I love bass but you cant "hear" my subs. The dont affect the tone much at all, just how much you get thumped in the gut or butt. The mids do the chest thumping all by themselves.

If anyone is around me I'd be glad to give a demo.
Shes sounding really great right now and getting better every day. All that's left is to mount my tweets and a tiny bit of smoothing in the vocal range and I'd put it against any other 2.5 system out there.
It sounds better than 2 pairs of my studio monitors and is approaching my focal utopia 3 way monitors.

Ever since my first one (Memphis amp back in a mid 90's BMW, system was installed around 2002) I cannot live without a bass knob.

I won't look at an amp that doesn't have a provision for one.

Have one in my RDX, and in my CLK. Love the ability to tune the bass on the fly without messing with menus on the HU etc.

Not a purist solution I suppose, but a pleasing one!

Turns out I had one for the twk. Completely forgot about it. Never used it once.

It's still strapped under the dash because I was going to fab a plate to mount it and forget it existed lol.

Dual Gang B50K audio tapers for this guy!

I'm okay with a regular old fashioned potentiometer, does what I need it to do.
