Default Audio Dynamics DSPs

Audio Dynamics has two DSPs on pre-order, estimated to ship Dec 31st, 2019.

One DSP is 4x6 ($99 pre-order), 10 band parametric, 4v output. Option to purchase external bluetooth unit and control unit ($20 each).

The other is 6x8 ($299 pre-order), 31 band parametric for channels 1-6, 11 band parametric for ch7+8, 6v output. The 6x8 has higher sampling rate, resolution, S/N, and lower THD so should be a higher fidelity product. It also has two digital inputs plus built in bluetooth and comes with the controller.

Both come with software, and have high and low level inputs.

I didn't find much chatter about these online so thought I'd start a thread here. What do you all think? For DSPs, I think it's nice to take a back seat until the guinea pigs surface inevitable software quirks. I have a favorable impression of Audio Dynamics though, and I think they might be able to pull it off on the first try. Plus the pre-order price tag is enticing.

I'm playing with the idea of using the 4x6 for my sub stage. I am currently using 31 band graphic eq for my subs and I think there's room for improvement (only 5 bands are in the sub range and I've got an intense peak between two of the bands).

Pre-order prices increase on Nov 1st.

That looks a lot like the Dayton 408 DSP. Even the software looks like the Dayton.

I think 299 is to much for what it is.

Just because I have 2000+ posts doesn't mean I have learned anything.

Isn't the Dayton 10 bands per channel?

The 4x6 looks like a good deal for a 2-way plus sub and the 6x8 isn't much more than the Dayton with all the addons plus it has digital inputs. I dunno, could be as good deal IMO. The 6x8 for $599 though, no way, that's getting up into the range of a good used DSP.

Thanks for bringing this to light! I was sitting on the DSP408 but have yet to purchase. The hesitation was figuring out a line driver solution for the 3 way front stage (6 way line driver?). The AD unit has 6V outputs though! That's what makes it the new DSP for me. Now my front stage 6 channel and sub amps get beefy voltage without an additional line driver component. Win!

Just pre-ordered mine. Thanks!

Add me to let us know how it works. If it really does have 31 bands of parametric EQ per channel and digital input for $300 than that is a good deal.

True, but I'm not sure why this needs to be pointed out.

Yep, sorry that confused me.

Anyhow, here is a note from Audio Dynamics in response to 'this is just like the Dayton':

"Our DSP68 is 31 band per channel vs Dayton's 10 band per channel, our has built in bluetooth vs Dayton's is extra purchase, our DSP has a 4 function controller that comes with it vs Dayton has a 2 function controller that is an extra purchase, our DSP has 6 volt outputs vs Dayton's 3.5 volt outputs, our DSP has 2 digital inputs vs Dayton's ZERO, and our DSP has 6 inputs vs Dayton's 4 inputs."

Source: https://www.toopics.com/p/2141031168...018_3248427759

Other differences that are not mentioned:
Resolution: Dayton is 56bit, AD is 64
Sampling rate: Dayton is 48kHz, AD is 96
THD+N: Dayton 0.008%, AD <0.001

Looks like this will be a nice DSP, especially for the price. Although, if I understand correctly, the $300 price is just a pre-order price - the actual price will probably be up to twice as much as that amount. At that point, you are talking Helix DSP.3 price, which makes it not such an easy decision.

Not to mention that specs are one thing and real-life performance is another. The Rockford Fosgate DSR-1 has 31-band-per-channel parametric EQ too - plus OEM integration - for ~$250 - but it has other "shortcomings" that make it not quite as good as it initially seems on paper.

So we'll have to see how it all works out. Definitely something to keep an eye on though. Looking forward to see how it works out and what the "normal" price will be.

What are these shortcomings you speak of? I was eyeing that one.
