Default Head unit options

So I was thinking about buying a new head unit. My setup is a 2002 Avalanche non Bose system. For the front is Focal Auditor 6.5 coaxial. Rear speakers are Kicker 6.5. Amp is JBL club 4505 5 channel. Sub will be a Sundown Sd3 10".

My options are a Sony Mex-m70bt for $120 or Pioneer deh-6010bs for $120. The Sony has 5v pre outs and a better tuner. The Pioneer has a 13 band eq. Is there much difference in SQ between these 2?

I guess I want to know if Sony is actually improving their sound quality over what it was 20 years ago with the old Sony Xplod line.

F Kenwood! I just bought the DNS893s last week. I sent it back today. I already purchased the Pioneer AVIC 8201. Nothing "wrong" with the Kenwood just nothing right either. I will say the screen is excellent.

Just because I have 2000+ posts doesn't mean I have learned anything.

I have limited experience with any of Sony's audiophile grade units (if they make such a thing), but a few months ago I bought one of their entry level Car-Play equipped units for the build in my 2005 Silverado.

Sony XAV-AX100

I trusted Sony because back in the day when I was a teenager (late 90's), I had one of their HU's in my car with some Eclipse speakers and that bastard jammed. All my friends wanted to go partying in my car because of how good it sounded.

So fast forward 20 years, I assumed that their SQ would still be legit. Well... at least with the unit I got, I was dead wrong. Very limited audio setting features and overall sounded like crap.

Was the HU totally to blame? I don't know. All I know is it sounded tinny or muddy no matter what I did and it didn't leave me with many options.

I've had a few Kenwood HUs as well, but never fairly evaluated them by amping them, but I would trust Kenwood.

However, ever since I discovered the Pioneer DEH-80PRS, I'm a Pioneer fan boy. It's got an old school singled DIN look, but sounds excellent, has tons of tuning options, and isn't crazy expensive.

I vote Pioneer.
