this isnt how you should be choosing a subwoofer. You should be choosing a sub after you figure out what size and type of enclosure you can do. Some subs in here call for small sealed, some call for small ported, some for large ported, some for IB. Power on hand and output desires is also something to consider... your all over the place.

Damn lol. I know nothing!

I have up to 2.5 cubic feet sealed. Or the whole trunk for IB in a Mitsubishi lancer.

I really don't want to go ported again. I've only used ported in the past and don't really like the sound. I've had pioneer, alpine, kicker and sundown in ported boxes. It's nice to show off and get window flex on that one track that hits right. But the rest of my music, like dance, r&b, freestyle, country some times sounds messy or no bass at all.

How much power do you have to power it? I will jump in and suggest that the SI RM-12 is for real and is a great sub in a 1 cuft box. The AF GB12 is also a slam dunk if you decide on that.

Also in the hot deals section is the Adire Audio 12" for $149 shipped and you can get 10% off that if you subscribe to the email . If i was in the market right now that would be hard to pass up. Its a D4 sub and works well in a 1.3 cuft box sealed. You could grab 2 and have room.

I have a DC audio 2k. So 600 4ohm, 1,200 at 2ohm or 2k at 1ohm.

Not sure about those AA subs. Wouldn't having higher qts and fs be better for SQ? I already have a sundown sa12. Not to thrilled with it musically. It will move a ton of air.

That would be perfect for either a single RM012 D4 or a single Gb12 D4.

Probably too much for either of these in a D2 config. No need to give them 2k watts.

If you wanted to do a pair of 12's then the AA shiva would work at 1ohm. Just watch the gain.

Well, do you want to go sealed, or do you want to go IB? IB bass is some of the best I've heard, but you need to build the baffle right, a rectangular box is usually much easier to build. For IB, you really should build a baffle behind the rear seats, and rear deck, regardless of where you mount the sub(S). If you're willing to pull the rear seats out to build a baffle, and rip up the rear deck for the second baffle, you can get very impressive results. If you want to keep it simple, use a sealed box.

Sealed is fairly easy, figure out what volume of airspace the sub driver wants and build a box where the INTERNAL volume matches or slightly exceeds the required airspace. If you use 2 drivers, multiply the required volume by 2. The 2 subs can share the same airspace or can be completely separate. Make sure the enclosure is sealed, I use PL Premium 3X to build my subs as it is a very good glue and will seal the gaps. If you use regular wood glue, Iíd recommend sealing the joints with caulk to make sure the box is air tight.

Infinite baffle (IB) can sound very good with very little power (150-300w) but requires you to seal your trunk from the interior. So it isnít as easy as building a box but often produces very nice, deep bass and doesnít take up as much trunk space.

I was going to go IB with a pair of AE SBP-15s I have but never got around to sealing the trunk. Now Iím moving forward with,y build using a SI RM-12 powered by 1200w though you could get away with half that power. The AF GB-12 is a very good sub but wonít quite have the output of the SI RM-12 though both have top notch sound quality. The JL 12W6 is another good sub. Iím not as much a fan of the JL 12W7. Iím not familiar with the Clarus or the Fi. Iíd recommend either the SI RM-12 or AF GB12 if going sealed though the JL 12W6 would be good too. Give them 600w and youíre golden (up to 1200w if you go with the SI RM-12). And the AE SBP-12 sub driver is one of the best IB drivers available if you wanted to do IB.

Thank you for that detailed information. I got a good deal on #2 JL12w6 with box today and jumped on it. All I have to figure out is how to recarpet the box. The carpet is in pretty bad shape. What is the difference between sharing the air space oppose dual single chambers.

Half a dozen of 1, 6 of another. Doesnít matter as long as the enclosure is large enough for 2 subs and is air tight.

There are a few reasons to potentially have separate chambers, primarily if you will be driving each driver with a separate amp or amp channel. If not wired correctly or if 2 amp channels arenít in sync, two drivers sharing the same chamber could fight each other and cause issues, potentially damage. But that is rare so I wouldnít worry about it. If you can, use a single amp channel to drive both subs, just make sure you wire them up correctly.
