Default 4 Channel + Mono and Shallow Subs

I'm getting back into car audio after a 10 year hiatus. Last system was infinity components, Rockford power 4 channel, Rockford power mono, and 3 JL 12v1's in a Ford crew cab. Now I have an 18 silverado crew cab. So far the plan is infinity 6x9 components in the front, and either 6.5" infinity components or coaxials in the rear. I have been looking at pioneer shallow mount subs, either 3-10's or 2-12's. I have never heard these, but they are $90 right now and the reviews look pretty good. If someone has a recommendation other than the pioneers, I'm all ears. Now the amps, sometimes there is too much info. I saw big D and someone else do amp dynos on kenwood and pioneer amps. This got me interested until I saw they used chinese boards and i dont know the sound quality of them. I'm looking for 2 reliable amps with good sound quality that doesnt cost an arm and a leg. My head is spinning trying to figure out a quality amp manufacturer. I miss orion and ppi from the 90's when I first started.

I would recommend a different approach.

First, when looking at 6x9 drivers, look at the Audiofrog GS690 and if you need a tweeter, the GS10 or step up to the GB10. Zero regrets ever recommending or installing Audiofrog equipment, they are a few classes above what you're looking at now but they don't cost much more, if any.

Second, I noticed you had no processor in your plans. Allow me to suggest one. You can consider DSP's within your amps, if you are tight on space and want to consolidate. I'm a long-time fan of Helix processors and their processor amps. The two to look at are the Helix V-Eight (10 channels DSP, 8 channels x 75W power), and the Helix P-Six (8 channels DSP, 6 channels x 120W power). What you'll find is that these will give you plenty of power but also be able to tune specifically to the needs you'll have to get the sound you want. DSP is the key, after all the proper prep steps (deadening, sealing, wiring, etc) and proper installation steps (duh.)

As far as subwoofers, lots of good options but if they'll fit, consider Stereo Integrity SI BM MkIII, and if you have a bit more depth, go with the shallow-ish Sundown SD3 10. If not, the Dayton slim 10" is a nice one, but you might need two.

No need for shallow mount subs in the Silverado. Subthump makes great boxes for under the back seat. I have had one for over 5 years with no desire to make my own box. Just can't use large magnet subs. The Dayton HO 10" subs fit fine and sound great. They also meet the internal volume perfectly.

Sundown SD3 & Dayton HO subs are both great suggestions. There are alot more 6x9 component options than there used to be. Crutchfield has a good selection. Orion and PPI are not what they used to be, as I'm sure you've probably already discovered.

Where is the best place to buy dayton subs? And I've already been checking out the subthump boxes. I've always built my own boxes, and my buddies when I was younger. This is a pic of what I did in my super duty. Bedliner the back of the cab and sub box.

Dayton subs can be purchased at Parts Express http://www.partsexpress.com. They are a subsidiary of Dayton.

I'm interested in the Dayton's, but how does American Bass match up to Dayton? I'm also looking in Skar amps. Are they worth it, or is there a better option for the same price?

I can't speak directly about Skar amps but I've read some pretty bad things about the company. I know the subs are uh... not SQ.

Anyway, I can commend on Massive Audio amps, especially the older Nanos as I've used many of them, and the new Nano BLX series which are pretty great. The bigger E series that look like a 120% sized BLX are great too, especially the sub amps with a railcap installed.

Other brands that are great for the buck - Pioneer, Kenwood eXcelon, and many of the Epsilon brands like PPI, Polk, etc with those simple small amps they make that all look pretty much the same but different. And if your pocket it a bit deeper, then you can get into Zapco which rate consistently very high in quality. Plenty of good amps for sure. Sometimes you can find ones with DSP and save a step, like I explained in my first post.
