Default Email from "John Stone" at Seas about Nextel cone and its water/moisture resistance

I asked about the back of the cone specifically and how it behaved in conditions were it might be exposed to water, moisture, and humidity. Nothing about the other parts of the driver or other environment concerns like dust or dirt.

Response -

"Hi
The Nextel cone is Nextel coated paper on the front only. The back of the cone has a normal “doping” compound on it. It should be fine in moderate humidity but isn’t up to being immersed.
Regards
SEAS USA"

A definition for doping for those wondering like I was -

3. Aeronautics.
a. any of various varnish like products for coating a fabric, as of airplane wings, in order to make it waterproof, stronger, etc.
b. a similar product used to coat the fabric of a balloon to reduce gas leakage.

I don't think it'll be a problem. Most OEM speakers just use uncoated paper, after all. You could do what I did, which is cut a plastic food container (even a cool whip tub or something like that) in half and make a rain shield around the top of each driver. (If they're playing midrange, lining said container with a Black Hole 5 pad or similar would be a good idea. Sure, if your doors flood that won't help, but if that happens you have more serious issues than wet drivers...
