Default Helix DSP Optical in

Doesnt seem like too many are using optical. Is it because coax is more prevalent in the portable players? Just wondering what combo any of you were using and if you like it. I think Im about ready to give up steering wheel controls and Ipod ( getting glitchey) into the factory radio.

I have used both USB in to the HEC and Optical from a Audioengine B1, both work great. Only one slight thing I did not like with Optical is the cable does not really fit securely. I ended up taping mine with Blue Tape...

Most source units don't have Toslink, instead they have coaxial. Also you end up losing you volume control with Toslink to Helix DSP. In the end, it is quite expensive. I would rather run RCAs and save the $400 additional expense. Proper installation will eliminate the noise.

I use Toslink in mine, and I have used it in just about every vehicle I've had since 1992. Some don't like the restrictions on cable runs with optical cables and others seem to think the connectors are not strong and will come unplugged. I've never run across that, but I do see their concern with the designs of some cables.

There's no such thing as noise free RCA. A 17ft RCA is a long antenna no matter how you installed it. There will always be some level of noise compared to noise free digital.
