Get a DMM with Oscilloscope. this one is sold under different brands at different prices, you can use the scope to look for clipping
check youtube, there are plenty of video about it, even one comparing the DD1 to this scope

What's wrong with the MiniDSP? I have the 6x8 C-DSP (pre-dirac) model NIB, never got around to installing it. Hoping it will go into one of my vehicles soon. Oh, looks like the 2x4 only has 1v outputs while my model has 2v outputs. That means you're going to use quite a bit of gain on the amp.

For setting gains, I used to do it by ear but recently I bought a portable o-scope.

However, after going through the steps, I ended up boosting levels a little bit more because most music I listen to doesn't hit the clipping threshold of a 40Hz tone.

Yea thats fine. It's best to set gains in the same manner your going to listen to music with.

You don't need a DD1 they are unnecessarily expensive. Get an oscilloscope/DMM. Something like this.

I was doing some reading here, and a lot of comments mentioned those handheld O-scopes to be WILDLY inaccurate. I also have no idea how to read an o-scope. Lmao

Buy an oscilloscope from Amazon. Use it then return it. Then I'll buy it open box for half price.

You best bet is getting a cheap Oscilloscope like the one below (which used to be around $50, so look around). You can then play a 50Hz tone and connect that to the output and turn your gains up until you see a clipping wave. There are a lot of YouTube videos on it. Getting a clean signal from your amp is more important that just reaching it's rated power.

You can also use that to check for clipping from your HU back, get the most you can out of your equipment.

Voltage squared, over resistance = watts thats the formula from the vid above. This formula gave me 625watts, i have no doubt it will do its rated 1500 watts. It did do 75watts over its rated 550w @4 ohms.
posted on the site it did 1873 watts dynamic.

i am gonna return the scope tho, its settings makes it hard to see a full sine wave. I had to keep moving the zero line up just so i could see the bottom of the signal. So dont recommen this scope to anyone here.
ill be ordering this one as its on sale for $71.90 and its supposed to be the newest model. Its the same one the DIY GUY in the vid above.

That's the one I told you to get to begin with. It's simple to use and effective. It's also a DMM. Only drawback is batteries. But I get energizers for free at work so 🤷🏽‍♂️. It was a little bit more expensive than the other choices that were given in that thread but it was the better choice. I've had mine a while and it's never gave me issues.
