  1. How would you describe your personality?

    Off Topic
According to the Myers–Briggs test, I'm an INTJ. While intelligent, I tend to suffer from being harder on myself than anyone else and that sends me into these weird loops that are tough to get out of. The funny thing about these loops is that I tend to not ask for help because if someone does...
  2. Sub enclosure hold down

Fabrication, Tools & Tricks of the trade
I'm more of a fan of bolts and L brackets... If L brackets are strong enough to keep my reloading bench, which is anchored into studs, from tipping over when I crank down on the handle, I hope they can hold my enclosure in place in the event of an accident.
  3. Average Joe Review: Stereo Integrity SQL 12"

    Member Reviews & Product Comparisons
Thanks for the review. This one is on my short list as is the Adire Audio Brahma 12. All I am waiting on now is for iDatlink to finalize the firmware for the RR2 so I can yank that POS HK system out of my car.
  4. Bracing required for 1 cu ft. box?

System Design: Help Me Choose Equipment For My Car
Try it and see. I've gone as big as 2 cubic feet net on a sealed 12" subwoofer without the need for internal bracing. Granted, this was back in the day when they needed a HUGE enclosure. OTOH, if you were using a 12" SPL monster that takes gobs of power, you'd probably want to brace.
  5. Mmatts dealer on diyma??

    General Car Audio Discussion
I had my HIFI-6150D since 2013 and just pulled it in April of 2019, still going strong, when I traded my GTI in. I'll reuse it as soon as iDatlink releases the Maestro RR2 with a firmware for my car. I just don't like the idea of replacing the stock radio to have less than stock functionality...
  6. Why four 6.5s?

    General Car Audio Discussion
I want to do something a little different with a walled direct cabin fire through the pass-thru with the rear seatbacks either folded down or removed. I'll measure again, but I'm certain I have room for a single ported 12, which is about the most weight I want to dedicate to a sub with a birch...
  7. Why four 6.5s?

    General Car Audio Discussion
While looking and asking various shops for recommendations on which subwoofers to run in my car, I can't tell you how many shops recommended four 6.5s. What is the deal with this? That is less cone area than a pair of 10s and the 6.5s have a FS of nearly 50 Hz to OVER 50 Hz. Why are they...
  8. Orion HCCA amp qustion

Technical & Advanced Car Audio Discussion
From memory, it adds a 15 dB boost at 40 Hz, a 4 dB cut at 200 Hz, and a 6 dB boost at 10 kHz. I may be a little off because I haven't owned one since 2015 or so when I abandoned all my old school gear.
  9. 2019 sti SQ build , sinfoni/mosconi/helix/SI

Build Logs & Project Install Gallery
I'm curious as to how you progressed on this build. I have a 2019 WRX Limited with the HK sound system and AutoHarnessHouse is about the only place that claimed to have harnesses to help. Crutchfield said I would have to cut and splice, which I DO NOT want to do! Any luck on getting interface...
  10. Will SENSITIVITY (SPL) W/M tell Subs efficiency?

    General Car Audio Discussion
Efficiency of a subwoofer at 1 watt measured at 1 meter varies greatly. A certain subwoofer manufacturer back in the good old days had the highest sensitivity but they never cited the 1,000 Hz frequency that they measured them at to hit that particular sensitivity level. Technically, they...
  11. sub placement in a trunk car

Technical & Advanced Car Audio Discussion
I know I may have started a similar thread many years ago, but I cannot find it. So, what are the pros/cons of doing a direct fire in to the cabin where the front is sealed off from the rear of the subwoofer? Generally, I do sub back so that the trunk sort of acts like a bandpass enclosure...
  12. Stereo Integrity TM65 mkIII impressions

    Member Reviews & Product Comparisons
Thanks for performing this review as these speakers are on my short list for my winter audio swap in my 2019 WRX.
  13. 6.5 Midrange 65mm depth

System Design: Help Me Choose Equipment For My Car
I'm in the same boat as you and I am currently looking at these: ScanSpeak Discovery Autosound 16W/4434G Morel PowerSlim 6 Ultra Slim ES-6IM Then, there are the component sets: Pioneer TS-Z65C Audiofrog G60S Oddly, I also ran the C5-650 component set and liked them. While I would rather...
  14. Favorite Sq amp and why?

    General Car Audio Discussion
My favorite of all time were the old school Zapco Studio and Z series amplifiers. Lunar Amplifiers run a close second! From the modern era, I tried the Alpine PDX-V9 and hated it; the JL Audio HD 900/5 and liked it; and the MMATS HIFI-6150d which I loved and still own. IMHO speakers and...
  15. iDataLink Maestro RR vs PAC

    General Car Audio Discussion
Then to add to the confusion, there is the RR2 that is coming out which supports more features than the RR for certain vehicles. I wish I had jumped on the beta test for the 2019 Subaru firmware, but I was too late by the time I saw it. I was part of the test group for the MK6 VW GTI platform.
  16. Slim door woofer for 2019 WRX

System Design: Help Me Choose Equipment For My Car
I was wondering what everyone is recommending for front door woofers in the current WRX. I ran the JL Audio C5 650 component set in my last WRX and was looking to go in a different direction with my 2019 WRX. In that case, please recommend a tweeter for custom pillar pods to go with this...
  17. HCCA 225 3rd gen dumb question

    Old School Car Audio Discussion
Hell, I'm confused because I ran Gen 2, 4, and 5. I didn't realize Gen 3 had the connectors, like 4 and 5... Which makes sense because I never owned a Gen 3.
  18. HCCA 225 3rd gen dumb question

    Old School Car Audio Discussion
I thought the 225 was soldered through the circuit board, but the 250 had the ring and bolt? As stated earlier, I don't have access to all my old photos but I have owned both amplifiers. My last HCCA 225 was a post ADST Gen 5 and my last HCCA 250 was a Gen 4 built in Korea but had "Made In...
  19. HCCA 225 3rd gen dumb question

    Old School Car Audio Discussion
I'd usually crimp my wires to add on, then wrap the crimp connection with electrical tape. From there I'd run them to either a fused distribution block or place fuses somewhere between the wire and the distribution block. As for the ground, I would add on if necessary, but I tried to keep my...
  20. 94 Thunderbird SC SQ Build: Old School Alpine & ADS

Build Logs & Project Install Gallery
Bummer, but I feel your pain. I had a 1996 Thunderbird and ended up having a love/hate relationship with that car. When it ran properly, I loved it. When I needed a new ECU, transmission, intake manifold, and burned through alternators like it was nothing, I didn't care for it.
