I’ve been working on upgrading the BOSE system in my Cayenne for a little while now. I tolerated the Bose as long as I could. Starting by changing out the sub in the stock enclosure with an Image Dynamics IDQS-8 dual ohm. I also replaced the center channel speaker with a fatial pro 3” and the dash tweeters with peerless ring radiator tweeters. The mids and highs sounded much better, the sub bass was not enough. I then replaced the factory Bose sub amp with a toro mr3. Better but not playing deep enough. I then built a stacked mdf enclosure to fit inside the spare wheel where the factory enclosure was, and installed a JL 10tw3 d4 in it. Bass is much better, but the overall sound is still lacking for me. I have bought a set of morel elate carbon 9 three ways for the front stage/mid bass and have ordered a Mobridge 8.1.1 amp to replace the factory Bose system. Haven’t installed the morels yet, waiting on the amp. Here’s the progress so far. View attachment 314719 View attachment 314719

Installed the elate carbons yesterday. They sound incredible, but the Bose amp is not enough power to do them justice due to the impedance difference of the drivers. Can’t wait to get the Mobridge amp

Sub enclosure is about .48cuft stuffed with polyfill. The speaker adapters I made from glued and

stacked pvc trim board and wrapped them inside and out with dynamat. The Morel MM3’s are secured in the stock locations on the backside of the door panels on custom abs adapter plates.

Are those MW9s going to fit behind the standard door speaker grills? Or do you have custom grills planned? I'm planning out a 2004 CTT build right now to replace a non-working Bose system. I know the doors are different designs, but I'm hoping some of the engineering inside the door is similar in dimensions.

@Flygts Did you re-use the factory speaker wiring in the door? I just got to that point (2004 CTT) and have learned that the wiring harness for the door is plugged in to receptacles in the front door jamb! And I can't find the back side of the plugs from under the passenger dash (haven't even looked at the driver's side, yet.)

Either I need to remove the plugs and figure out how to run the wire from the passenger footwell to the plug location, then to the door through the weather seal; Or I need to cut a new set of holes and weatherproof it. (Or just re-use the factory wires.)

I used the factory wiring in the doors, it’s 16ga, for the mid, and 14 or12 ga for the woofer, I am running wires to the dash for the tweeters since I will be running an active set up

I guess I'm determined not to re-use German wire that adheres to biodegradability mandates. I've already had to re-wire a few things where the insulation just crumbled away. Hopefully they reformulated that kind of thing before your model Cayenne.

Here's my latest post where I figured out how to get the wire to the door.

That’s a good point, my factory wiring all still looked good.. Your work looks great, I didn’t pull the inner door open to deaden, just did what I could reach through the speaker opening, didn’t want to mess with the window tracks and things. Your speaker rings are sweet!

Finally have some more updates on my install.
I was on the fence about rear speakers, and decided that since this is a daily driver that I should replace the rears with something nice for my passengers. So I bought and installed a set of Morel Virtus Nano Carbon 3 ways for the rear doors. I also wanted to have all of my speakers installed when I got my moBridge amp. Replacing thefactory Bose rear door speakers made a huge improvement in sound quality. And Porsche was nice enough to already have a midrange location in the rear door panels that was just covered with a blank. The Burmester option has factory 3 ways front and rear.
Finally thanks to Fraser Ryan @mobridge I was finally able to get the K2 8.1.1 MOST 25 amplifier after waiting a year due to the chip shortage. The capabilities of this amplifier are impressive, and it is slightly smaller than the factory Bose amp. I have the 8.1.1 running my front 3 way active set, my rear doors 3 way passive, and my sub. The assignable pre amp output is going to a toro mrx2 running my center channel.
I am still in the process of tuning, but the results so far are much better!
