Hey all,

I could gain an additional 2db of SPL by buying a dedicated 300-watt amp for my midbasses. I'm currently running them at 175-watts. The increase in output at BEST would be 2db and that is not taking power compression into account. My guess is that you guys would suggest nixing the idea and instead getting more efficient pro drivers. ;)

It's not overall SPL that's important. A 50w amp can get very loud, it will just sound like ass doing it. 300w would increase your headroom so that your music is as clear and dynamic no matter how loud you play it. Forget SPL. Focus on how good your music will sound.

Don't be giving me any easy excuse to add more powa. You know I'll do it. :D

Headroom on dynamic passages makes a system come to life. Its not about the constant spl level, which is easily attained without a lot of power depending on your drivers.

I admitted already have a good amount of power. Any new amps would need to go in the trunk and would require a special "hide-away" install. It would be more money. I still sometimes find myself craving that extra last few bits of power when I know that amp is being pushed to it's limit on peaks. But I get the feeling it's already more SPL than I should be using for the safety of my hearing. :( Having fun just comes with it's price I guess. :p

I'm trying to keep myself from buying 2 2x150 watt amps instead of the one 4x80 amp
80w is not a lot of headroom if you like your music even moderately loud. You will definitely appreciate 150w or more.
