3way system setup

Well i already decided that im gonna go with the LYC ribbon tweets...Not sure which midbass and midrange driver to go with..

I was thinking of the Vifa XG18 or Seas CA18RNX for the midrange..im looking to put the ribbon and midrange in kicks..and for midbass Seas Excel W18NX or SEASL18..What you guys suggest?

Still not sure though. And im looking at AA midrange but i have no clue when that is coming out.

And to power this i was thinking 3 2channel amps and 2 active xovers(one for the highs and mids and another for the midbass) Also I want to run an eq for the whole setup as well.

Now i was thinking just running the front preouts to the eq and from the eq to the xovers and from their to the amps. use high pass filters on the amps and lp on the xovers. The xovers will be set to the highest freq range each speaker can handle and the amp will be set to the lowest basicly giving each set of speakers a specific freq band..what you guys think?

You're going to dedicate 6.5 as midrange and 6.5 as midbass?
From what I understand the Seas Excel's are very good in the midrange duties so if you just use that as a mid bass you're probably just wasting money. I'd say use the Seas Excel for mid range and then find something cheaper for mid bass (if you really need a 3 way front stage).

you should probably try rethinking the 7" woofers in the kicks..

i would like to go with an 5.25" if Lotus made some...
yea sorry bout the sizes.. i want to do around 5-6 for mids and 7-8 for midbass
yea... why not try the dayton rs 5.25's with the 8's and focus on a good install.

what hu do you have? i would get an active xover than can handle your lp's and hp's.
yea i said id go active. And im not looking really to go the cheapest route just looking to get some really good drivers. And i plan on focusing on the install after i get my drivers
and HU might be 9835
9835 is not going to cut it.

the cheapest full active 4-way setup (tweet+mid+midbass+sub) would probably be the Alpine DVA-9860 + Alpine PXA-H701.

SEAS Excel 5.5" and SEAS L22RNX's will rock your socks off (with lots of power of course) - or even the L18's will do it too! (you dont need to spend a LOT of money on dedicated midbasses)
You could also look into Elemental Designs Eu-700 Sub/midbass. $50 each shipped isn't bad. I've heard lots of good things about those.

i was referring to you mixing the xover duties b/w hu and amps.
how is the 9835 not gonna cut it? Im gonna be using external active xovers....and those midbasses from eD are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy 2 big.. but thanx for the adivce ill look in2 the other drivers
i wouldnt use any xovers on the HU
I have a 9835 & I think you should use the xOvers in it... hard to find any externals that offer the xOver flexibility the 9835 offers...

If you design & plan your system carefully, you can use a combination of HU & amp xovers to get your 4way going...

I did...
well yea i sketched everything out on how i want it to be setup and got a nice lil layoutt..im gonna try to post a pic of it
i cant get a good pic of the drawing i made..but it jus goes like i stated be4..

Front outputs from hu-->Eq-->(Y cable for left and right channel)Xover 1(mids/highs) Xover 2(midbass)-->3 diff amps(Midbass 100x2, Tweeter 25x2, Midrange 100x2)

Tweeter and mid are going in pods and midbass is gonna be on doorpanel or in a pod facing foward and slightly angled..

So you want me to use the L18s as a midbass?
you can use whatever you want to use, man.. its all up to you.

some people will tell you to use the Peerless XLS 8", which ive never had any experience with, but i already think its overkill.. I think the L22 is overkill too, but its whatever floats your boat.

the L18RNX is a really really nice driver.
Yea thanks..I just want some good oppinions because they are not too many shops around here that carry those type of drivers.

The way i want to hook everything up..is that all right? Do you see any issues with that?

Front outputs from hu-->Eq-->(Y cable for left and right channel)Xover 1(mids/highs) Xover 2(midbass)-->3 diff amps(Midbass 100x2, Tweeter 25x2, Midrange 100x2)
i would probably do

Front > Amp > Tweeters
Rear > Amp > Mids
Sub > Y-split > 2 Amps > Midbass and Subwoofers.

This way, because midbass to subwoofer intergration is not as hard as 'midbass to midrange' or 'midrange to tweeter' intergration. Your midbasses would be limited to 200hz LP but most people would probably want to run them that low anyways...

you know if you do not own any external processors yet, you can get an Alpine PXA-H701 (and controller C701) and this has 4-way crossover's and 31-band geq's or 5-band peq's (on 7/8 outputs) then more eq band's on the subwoofer outputs too. It also has time correction on each output, along with a couple of other goodies... You can hook it up to your 9835 using Ai-Net, but youll have to use the C701 to control/adjust/tune it.
