I'm building door panel speaker pods, and 6.5's angled out will crowd my size twelves exiting and entering my small car. I hate to drag my feet every time I forget. What would I lose (if anything) going to 5.5's? The speakers will be Alpine Type X components, 100 watts per side.

bigger speakers have the ability to play lower notes more easily

You can still have a good sounding system with 5.5" comps. You might want to run your sub a little higher to make up for lack of midbass, but the Type X should give you decent response.

Seems to me if you have a sub the size of your components is less critical.
