Can you spend 600$ on 6-1/2 Speakers ??

I had an customer whom just called and he told me he spent 600$ on a pair of 6-1/2 speakers about 2 years ago mb quartz. Is this possible ?????

But any way he has since blown them, He need's replacments the car they would be going in is an convertable, He need some that sound good, but a bit more importantly needs to be loud, IE High dB.

What do you guys recoumend ?

I would say diamonds but they sound good but there db's are only 87, I think.

Morel SUPREMO SW 6 - Morel 6" 200 Watt RMS Subwoofers

those are subwoffers, But what i meant was on any mb-quartz brands ?

I know it's possible but above 350, I would star looking at Custom made Woofers/speakers
It's very possible. Not that I would buy any of them, but there are a number of 6.5" component speakers for $600 or more. I know the MB Quart QSD's were really expensive. Hybrid Audio, some Morels, Alpine F1's, Dynaudio, CDT, Focal and a number of others have prices that high or higher.

Look here for a bunch of sets well over $600.

they are actually mids...morel just calls them subwoofers.

What kind of car will these be in? How much power on hand? Are they going in sealed doors or kickpanels? what's the mounting depth? is this an active or passive system?

Without knowing more about the car, amp, the way the car has been prepared (deadening, etc.), it will be tough to suggest a proper set of components. Also, what exactly did he "blow"? The tweeter, the woofer, the crossover, all of it? MB Quart is the brand you are talking about. They sell (or I should say they USED to) very high end editions like "Q". To me, the Q's cut into my ears like glass and had absolutely no reason to be ~$600, but that's only my opinion. Before I dare make a suggestion as to what would work...what does this guy like, and what are the environment variables as mentioned in the beginning of my post?
I think many are in agreement that the vintage Quart paper woofers were awesome...great midbass.

Tweeters have had quite a reputation for being bright.
Okay Update.

They are going into the porsche boxter convertable

In the doors.

He blew The Speakers

He does has an amp Running them and the door.

He need's something Loud well because it's a convertable.

I really don't much else, He has to bring the car over to let me see it.

For the record I am aware of speakers that cost well over 600, But not an MB quartz from 2 years ago.

MB QUART, damnit. Notice the lack of a "z". They are not a mineral crystal, they are a German company. :)

Now,..you've said that he blew the "speakers"...but this is not what I asked. On a $600 pair of components, there is a tweeter, a woofer, and crossover PER side. He likely did not blow the entire thing, only a portion. So, do the tweeters not work, or do the woofers not work? Check it out when you get the car, and perhaps show pics. The other possibility is that they may be installed incorrectly, and there could be a problem you can solve with the right install procedure for next time.

Off the cuff, I'm going to suggest the Kicker SS components, and my second suggestion would be the Pioneer Premier TS-C720PRS components. These run about $280 or so, average.

When you get the car, check the doors for deadening, and if they've been sealed up properly.

Convertible or not, you can make it sound good, clear, and LOUD as you want to. Hell, we can go w/ horns if you want to make him deaf.

Now..here's where you need to be truthful about all this to us, and don't take this wrongly.... Do you know what you are doing? This is an EXPENSIVE car, and if you make one false move you can damage it badly. Do you have the knowledge and competence (and balls) to work on this car? If not, let one of these guys here suggest a solution that involves less of a risk!

just for the record the db number your talking is not a volume level

was waiting for that, LOL If i don't think i can do a job i usally pass them on to my friends audioshop

But it should be pretty simple swap and I got to the tools.

You can Check My website for some of my old installs. Know Before You say anything I am an installer and a suggester, If they do not want to spend the $ I am not going to make custom sub boxes and such.

I Have some decent Experience, My old stepdads nephew Owned a shop I have been learning Since I was 12, now 19.

I am pretty sure he Blew The woofer, But like I said I have to see the car.

I have Done 2-911's,3-944's, and 1 Boxer, So I know what I am doing.

Personally I really feel bad for Porsche owners with the exception of the 944, A sub system never sounds good Under the "Bonnet"

On an off note Which One's would you prefer, The pioner's Would be a bit more bassy, But i don't like a alot of bass in the door's Cause that are what subs are for, I love diamond's Woofers and such IN THIS PRICE RANGE, Higher i would probaly go Hertz, Lower pyle's, but thats me but take a look at these. They ar closey matched

Pioneer Premier TS-C720PRS

Diamond Audio D661s

Diamond Audio S600a

They are all linked just clicked them
I won't do Diamonds. I owned them and hated them! Simple as that. They have the same ear-piercing sound that the Quarts have (metal dome models in this example.) The silk ones are...well,...there's better out there but Kudos to Diamond for trying.

The 720's are bassy because they can be, but that's what tuning is all about. Trust me, in a convertible you'll be praising whatever god you believe in that you have the mid-bass these things have. That's the first part to go in an open top car. The tweets aren't too shabby either.

If you are doing the car correctly (compared to when he had them put in), you'll be doing deadening in the doors. Bet you he has NONE right now. Just a hunch.

If just the woofer is blown, consider doing a separate driver in place of components. It is much more difficult to match up to the MB Quart crossover, but if you do your math and get lucky..there's a chance. The other way is to go active on the setup, which will solve a lot of the problems (like blowing speakers) because you can run steep crossover points and be more cautious about it all.

Thoughts?

Well these aren't for my car,

But I love the Diamond Audio S600a's, I have them up front in my mom's car (08 impala),Unless you are talking about d661's or tweets, the s600a's have kevlar and sound wounderful to me.

along
with Diamond Audio D393i (6x9)
both are hooked to an
Swiss audio 4-channel amp (SMX-4400C 4)
Also a Swiss Audio monoblock (SDX1000C) and a 12' swiss audio Sub (SWL-1281)

Honestly some say bad things about swiss, But i have never had any problems and i love their fit and finish

Also factory HU Because It's simple play mp3's, has aux in, Sat radio, and it would be a pain in the ass to work around on star and still use it.

As far as my car I need to buy one, I don't believe in loans and i'm still saving, As for me it's my ninja 650 and my zen

This guy can afford a porche, but cant afford decent amps? I have a set of 720 PRS components in my 03 cobra convertible. i find that the volume level just isnt where id like it. Its getting 230 watts per side of clean power and i find myself wanting more, even with the top up. I feel like deadening a convertible is kind of a losing proposition, but I might try to do some work on the doors.
You seem very set on Diamond, so I guess you've already made up your mind without any assistance from the forum.

But...

Just try to consider that you are installing for someone who wants the most out of the front end, and the suggestions I've thrown your way are probably exactly that.

Also keep in mind, you are 19...I have a decade of audio sales and installation on you at near 30 (shudder to think about how old I am just now..). Not to put your experience down, but wisdom comes with age on this hobby. If you'll not listen to me, listen to the others on this forum that know their stuff far better than I. I learned from them, after all. Some of these guys have been installing killer setups before you AND I were born. Consider that.

Oh and talk about wisdom, I have three wisdom teeth coming in and that really hurts but when u have three toothaches at once it can be a bit unnerving no pun Intended
