I personally wouldn't waste my money on one, they are prone to Display Failure! Like every 8 of 10! Not an "R" but here's a link below.

I just wanted to use one as a DSP controller for a 94 Blazer. That old Alpine DSP is still nearly as capable as most other dsps. I was also going to put a modern touch screen with it. It would have kept it 90s classy. However I am not paying that much for a controller when the DSP has its own.

Thanks for all the comments and keeping the thread alive, $350.00 was a stab in the dark and understand I will have to pay more for a good one! That said, not had many replies/offers and one seems rather strange (scammer?).
I've always had a 'thing' for Alpine and the 7998 is one of the few units that would look OK in my E31 840Ci.

PS. What is the difference between the 'R' and non 'R'?

"R" is the European equivalent to the US model, different Radio frequency and the "R" has the Tos-Link output. I believe the "R" has a copper chassis as well.

No problem. Just reevaluate purchasing one sir. I would hate to see you buy one and loose money with a dead display soon there after. Please read up on these if you haven't already done so.
Thanks again Ryan; it is rather a case of heart over head however, I do have a UK supplier of the ribbons and I'm fortunate enough to work with an elctronics engineer that fixes, to component level, Motorola radios. It would look rather nice in my E31 too - the newer kit is all a bit 'sparkley' for my tatse! 🤣🤣🤣 Next on the list is speakers and amp, speakers being particularly troublesome as the E31 OEMs are all non-standard!

Ok, so that may be easier to deal with. I've owned a few of these over the years and just gave up on them due to that particular issue! Well good luck on your Speaker search. You might have to work with more standard sizes and implement some adaptors to make them work. I'm an E38 owner as well, slightly less of an issue except pertaining to the rear deck subs. I wonder if BAV Sound has anything for the E31?
Big fan of that era of BMW, I was lucky enough to own a year 2000 E38 and E39, both in Oxford Green, always had a hankering for an E38 750iL, can but dream! I'll have a look at VAV Sound, thanks for the advice.

Thanks Ryan, she's in good nick but with some more to do come spring - in the short term, next few weeks, the front seats are being re-trimmed, very much looking forward to that along with the audio upgrade project!
