I’m looking for someone who can provide a service that basically looks over amplifiers. Have to have the right equipment to check everything to make sure it’s all functioning properly and at it’s potential.

I assume you’d also need to be able to do some sort of basic service work. I’m not necessarily talking about repairing dead amps, but servicing amps that “were tested and are working” but might have slight issues with the power supply, output or input.

I’ve come across a few people lately who either buy and sell, or buy and hold old amplifiers without really knowing whether they’re good or not; even though they might turn on and make sound.

Whoever can do this might be a good in-between for a lot of used amp sales.

The SQ4100 in the picture? Yup. Slight issue. It powers up and plays music and all the controls work but the output on all channels is distorted. Scratchy sound that follows the rhythm of the music.

This post was also about other amps I was trying to buy, that the sellers had stored for a while and didn’t know if they worked properly or where to get them checked/serviced.

Gotcha I agree that would be helpful. Just thought it was funny you led with a picture of that one. I’ve had my Mmats serviced before and instantly knew those guts.

They do in house repairs, i want to say it’s a flat fee of $250 if you’re interested in fixing that one.

Not to hijack and I'm not sure this is really different but does anyone have recommendations for amp repair? I have a few amps that need some love. 1 needs repairs and I have a couple that I would love to have caps replaced.

Eric Stoer Repaired and Class A biased a Soundstream Reference 604 for me. He did a great job. He performed the service in approximately a month and part of that was me looking for a cleaner board Due to some damaged pads. His communication was excellent as well. Prices were average I would say.

Shawnk is excellent as well. He rebuilt an MC300 for me a few years ago.. Last I heard he had a backlog of amps and wasn’t taking on any more.

Sent the SQ4100 to MMats today after finally getting a hold of them on the phone. Very nice and helpful people; they seem to be really busy and/or short-staffed like everyone else. $250 for a repair/update as @clange2485 mentioned and $90 as a basic bench test fee and if the amp cannot be repaired. I’m curious to see what the updates are and their assessment of the amp in general. The issue was that the output was distorted. Everything functioned correctly.
