I'm considering putting a small amp (Arc 2-channel) in a bin found under the rear seat cushion of my Mazda 5. The amp fits perfectly with a couple of inches of airspace around the sides and top, and I can drill some cooling holes in the bin.

How good of an idea is it to "trap" the amp in such a confned space? I frequently see amps covered in some gorgeous installations but it's not something I've ever done, considering heat the enemy to amp longevity...

Just add a cooling fan to the compartment and you should be golden.

Hmmm... maybe I can utilize the rear duct from the HAVC system? Of course, that would only work when I was blowing cool air...

Since I'm usually the only one in the vehicle, I'll probably make it a habit of driving with the seat cushion in the "up" position anyway.
