Anyone try one of these cheap dsp's yet?

I just noticed the cerwin vega has a couple of new dsps and so does diamond audio. Looks like they are the same units just dressed different and the diamond audio is a little more expensive. These actually fit what I'm looking for in a dsp, just wondering if they are worth a poo for a budget unit in a budget system. (it looks like only the 6 channel is currently available but the 8 channel will be soon)

I have a question first. I'm looking at the instructions and on an example computer screen, it has "write" on it. Well I'm well versed enough in electronics to know what that means. I'm guessing, you make your changes and then write to the amp for them to take effect? If I'm correct, and its not based on "realtime" adjustments.... I'm out. If its realtime, then I'm really considering it.

I'm sure you can hear changes real time. That's a good question though.
I'm thinking about one these for a super cheap kia build.
Powered up the Dayton DSP. Zero noise it's awesome. You can edit real time and hear the difference.

Sadly the mid-range and tweeters are not.

DSP4086: yes, you can hear changes in real time, as soon as you drag a point in the graphical representation, or as soon as you tab/enter/focus away from the parameter that you entered. "Write" makes it permanent, it takes a few seconds, and you can save it all to your laptop as well.

That's what I figured. It's kinda they way they all work.
Just in their own way.

So as you make changes, it changes that setting? Why do you have to “write” it? Does it lose those settings when powered off if you don’t write? Trying to get as much info on it before buying.

It's the same sort of thing for the DSP-408 and minDSP 2x4s I use. You have to "save" (or "write") the changes (new settings) or those changes will be lost and the unit will revert to the previously saved (old) settings.
There are 10 save slots, which would be impractical to switch between in normal use. I use them to write every few changes to a new slot while tuning with pink noise, then I can go back and listen to music with the ability to compare. Writing and switching is pretty quick, the slower thing is muting/unmuting channels, it only takes 2 seconds, but it seems like that should be quicker when every time you hit seven of the channels.

Yes just like any other program really.
Like in the old PC games. Power went out while you playing. Done for. Sister walks in wanting to use the phone. Done for.
Dude...

The Dayton DSP is a steal for the price. Aside from the streaming issue the thing is pretty sick. I'm getting the hang of tuning precisely what I want from each speaker and it's on target.

I'm going to do a review of it once I'm done playing God of Sound, but here's a few important things:

1. Zero, and I mean ZERO noise.
The one that was sent to me was in fact a restocked one. My peeps got it for $100 or close to that shipped. Given that I'm sure the new bnib ones have to be fine.

2. The app is super responsive.
You move something and as soon as you let it go, it changes.

3. I'm pretty sure that it does everything that most other dsp's do. At least until you get to Helix, Mosconi level. You get what I mean.

One bad thing.... The EQ sliders are super sensitive. And you can't just type in what you want for some functions like Q.

Another bad thing... I'd be wary of streaming direct without having a secondary way of getting sound out of your system. That way if it's sounding sketched you can check via other methods.

One more thing. If you're not sure of what's the right frequency to modify, the Clarion graphic eq is perfect to match with it. You can use it to find the frequency closest to what you're looking for and use that as a starting point when you return to the parametric one in the Dayton.

What I did was find the closest one, go to the Dayton, and cut that frequency by like 6db. Then i would move the slider little by little until the one I wanted cut out completely. Then I boosted that one to where I actually wanted it to be.

Full review will be forthcoming.

On sale bro
I saw that, went to JBL's website and saw it was the same price there too. So I started wondering if it was really on "sale" lol

I remember when a lot of people got these as refurbs from JBL.
I just bought this and am waiting for it to arrive. I am running a DSR1 right now and like it, however I need more outputs and want to use my subwoofer output on my radio. I hope I like this one.
Ive had my experience’s with DSP’s,cheap and mid range and nothing over $500
one was the Spanish model’s for $120
2x DS18 which has been posted here.
ESX
ESX Director
The Director is wonderful, i picked it up for $460
I just bought a DSR1 to run my subs and the ESX will run rest.

personally my thing in my DSP i must have is optical input, twice as good if it has an out optical.
Stop’s noise instantly. I tried a DA408 hooked up with rca’s and the engine noise was so loud it was louder than the car until half volume.
im putting up two affordable DSP’s in the classifieds.

Perfect timing. My check was $1400 short this month :(

Well for one we had a doozy of a month and for two I messed up when I changed my takes and they took out double what they normally do…..on a normal size check. I was only about $1400 short than my normal check. :eek
