I want to get my hands on one of these just to see what suspension goodies it has. Too bad the motor is so generic.

not sure what to think about all of these 7" XBL drivers having suspension-related issues, huh?

They perform well compared to the competition. It's not uncommon to have 3-4mm of linear suspension travel. This one however is truly linear. In all of our tests for 7"s this one is special in this respect.

funny that the coil runs out of gap before the suspension even starts complaining, I believe that would make a higher failure rate on drivers due to the surrounds having to take a beating to stop over-excursion.
Meh, I doubt the surrounds will ever come apart. The motor looses omph rather quickly. It takes exponentially more power to push it out of the gap. There is some truth to this. It seems to me the suspension is always offset forward, if it is offset. Perhaps on top of it's duty as a restoring force it also acts as a hard brake to prevent damage. Not in this design though.
