Ok I need help with power and battery issues. I'm going to be running about 1800 watts of power on my sound system, and I have an 06 civic ex. My build thread is in that forum if you want to take a look. Here it is: http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/diyma-build-logs/55623-06-civic-ex-build.html[/URL]

So my issues are that I'm having trouble with the design I originally wanted. I have an optima yellow top in front for the main now, and I am installing a 220 amp or it might be a 200 amp h/o alternator, and then also a Kinetik HC800 battery in back. Well my design was to glass a pod in my spare tire, so that it can still be use able, and then have it come through the false floor amp rack that I'm building.

I have kids and so I always have stuff in the trunk as well I play softball so I have a pretty large bat bag, and I have golf equipment. Needless to say I use my trunk alot. My subs are going in the corners, as seen in the thread, so those are out of the way. I just don't seem to have enough room for the design I thought I was going to be able to do so I'm rethinking it.

What I would like now is to have one battery up front that would be able to run the system as well as the car's needs and not be starving for power.

What are some suggestions for batteries out there. Doesn't have to be Kinetik, I was just looking at those because I heard alot about them around different threads as being one of the best. But I'm up for any suggestions, especially at this point.

Sorry about the long thread, I just wanted to fulfill any questions that might be asked about my situation.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Scott,

You really don't need anything special to in terms of a battery. I'm running just shy of 3000 watts in my Scion off the stock alt and battery. No problems what so ever. If you already have an Optima yellow top then I'd say you're good to go with that. Just make sure all of your wiring is up to snuff and call it a day. No need to dump money on h/o alts and more/bigger batteries with only 1800 watts.

Well I've already gotten a Kinetik HC800, and the HO alternator. I can sell the Kinetik but i think I may do the HO alternator anyway. This would make my install so much easier if I didn't have to do a separate battery in the trunk.

I would definitely like to add more sound deadener. I have a ton in the trunk already. I'm planning to layer the rear deck because I'm going to use the rear stock speaker locations for air pass thru for the subs. Meaning they don't have to try to fight going through the seat or the rear deck. I'm going to mod the rear seat as well. There is an arm rest, which due to the kids is always down for the cup holders, but the spot in the back of it is going to get cut out and I'm going to fab a frame with some grill cloth on both sides for the air to travel through there as well.

Pods for the rear 4" HiVi mid range will be built in the rear pillars just above the seat headrests. That's only because of the kids, and the movies for them. Otherwise I would be quite fine without rear fill.

So back to what I was saying, I would like to do the floor and the roof in sound deadener, and some kind of ensolite or closed cell foam for a quieter ride. I really don't have much problems in the way of rattling issues. I dropped the seat once and the rearview mirror about fell off it was shaking so much, and the only other issue is the rear deck tray. I'm rambling now but I think you get the idea. Basically I agree with you.

Sorry for the lengthy way around to get to that!

Don't waste your money on Ensolite! I found that out the hard way. :( The only decent use for that stuff is to stop panel to panel vibrations/rattles. It doesn't do anything in the way of sound absorption though.

Other than that, it seems like you have a pretty solid plan.

So just deaden the floor and roof and that's it? What do you think about the liquid stuff? Only asking cause I saw a thread last night that had it on top of the deadener. Seemed like overkill to me but sometimes that's what's best. That was just for information and opinion. Too much work I think.

I like the liquid deadener in conjunction with mat. Fox Pro is a whiz with deadening. He is a big advocate of lead as well as mass loaded vinyl (MLV). I'm going to try out the MLV approach with an upcoming install. Lead seems to be hard to get a hold of in our neck of the woods though. :(

Mass loaded vinyl huh?? Like this stuff...

Mass Loaded Vinyl 1/16"

Interesting. It's pretty goddamn economical if I do say so myself. What's the recommended adhesive for something like this? And is it really as effective as butyle sound deadening materials?

I also noticed that auralex makes some MLV... but that stuff is a grip... $300+ for 120 square feet.

Yes Abe, that kind of thing when used in concert with deadener is very effective. Sometimes a floating layer in between can be helpful too, but then you're starting to get pretty extreme in terms of layers. And I'd go for the 1/8" stuff on that site instead of the 1/16".

I know that Fred's SEMA/CES demo car has about 4" or so of deadener on the floors in between the different layers of different stuff. :D

Wow. That's pretty good then. If i looked at it correctly it's 150.00 for 135 sq ft. of the 1/8" stuff. That's enough to do my car 2 1/2 times in the cab and the trunk. That might be worth a try for sure!

I have to sell some stuff before I spend any money or the next check I write will be for the divorce attorney, and an apartment! LOL

I don't know off the top of my head. I would have to search around again. Though the website Abe listed has pretty good pricing and I would probably just pull the trigger on an order from them.

If everyone decides that they want to try it, maybe we could all go in on an order together? One decent sized order shipped to one central location would cut the costs for all of us. Just a thought.
