Ok... I know there's no best but I have been doing a lot of research and have just gotten confused!
I have a 2023 GMC Sierra SLT Crew Cab that I've been collecting the parts to upgrade the stereo on. So far I've purchased...
1 set of Focal Utopia 165W-XP
SoundsGoodStereo amp rack
SoundsGoodStereo door block off plates
Metra AXDSPXETH1 Interface
Tweeter PODs for Pillars
I have not picked out any amplification or processors yet
So on the under seat subs... I don't really care if I have to do a 2" seat lift or not if there's a pretty good gain from it. I have looked at lots of box builders, youtube video's, etc. Where I'm stuck with this is WHAT SUBS, SIZE and HOW MANY!
4 front firing 8's
6 front firing 6.5's
3 down firing 13.5's
2 downfiring 12's
3 downfiring 12's
etc., etc. etc.
I had a JL StealthBox with 2 10's ran off a JL 750/1 in my 2018 truck and it was pretty blah...
I want a lot more than that. I guess what I don't feel good about deciding on is I can get 4 8's that will work in spec sealed in that area. Or I could get 2 8's that will work sealed in that area, or I could get 3 13.5's that would work well sealed in that area.
How do I determine if 2 B2 Audio Rampage 8's would be better than 4 Sundown 8's or any other brand mix. I'm not sure why some subs require 2+times that amount of space as others do. I know I want good sound and lots of output! I don't care if I need 1500 watts or 2500 watts. But I don't know if I need ported or sealed.
I have a CNC and full wood shop so I can build whatever is needed. I don't really have limits on what to spend I guess other than maybe keep the cost of subs under $2,000 (not 4 JL 8W7's as an example) or so.
I know a lot can sound good when implemented correctly but I was told that 3 JL Audio 13TW5V2's running off 1500 watts would be better than any 4 8's setup. Is that correct? It does seem like 3 of those would sound good and having them downfiring would look nice and not be as prone to damage. But would 2 high excursion 8's such as the B2 Audio Rampage 8's running off like 2,500 watts be better? How do you all make those decisions?
I seriously appreciate any clarification on this issue knowing how sticky it is... I've already held off purchasing stuff for about 4 weeks and I've changed my mind 4 times I what I'm going to get.
Thank You,
Chris...
