I've been working on my sub enclosure and need to order the internal dampening material. I believe I have settled on Blackhole Five. I'm not finding anything on how much is needed or how it's best applied.

Do I just treat the wall behind the subs (bottom in my case), or do I apply the material to all the walls?

I'm just going to say that you and your Texas weather are costing the rest of us a lot of money...

Here's a 2lb/sq ft solution, 4x8 sheet

Group buy? They're close enough for me to pick up...

I've been doing reading on this for a while. There are alternatives such as Rockwool, but I've narrowed down my choice to Blackhole Five or the competitor ResoNix Guarduan. They both have same layer type and construction, so I think functionality would be very similar. I decided on Blackhole Five simply because I can get it in smaller quantities, therefore I can get it cheaper.

What is the pound difference between the 2? I didn't see anything on the 5.

While that may work, I'm going to stick with what I've settled on. At some point I need to make a purchase as I've already asked the what to use previously. My only question is how much I need. Knowing how the product is best applied will answer that question. Blackhole Five is basically Blackhole Tiles without the water proof coating, and those are proven to be effective.

You can just buy denim insulation, if you want something similar to Stuff.

Lets try this again and I'll ask the question in a different way. Whether I use the BH 5, Guardian or the Barrier, are the materials applied to just the surface wall behind the subwoofers or is it also applied the wall. My subwoofers are up facing, so the bottom will be facing the back of the subwoofers. Do I just apply the material to this area or do I put it on the sides as well?

The physics guys will tell that pressure propagates in all directions. On-end, the MLV layer won't do a whole lot, so surfaces parallel to the pressure wave, such as the front face won't benefit from it as much as other surfaces. The further away from the driver you get, the more the pressure wave has dissipated. So, perpendicular surfaces that are close to the driver, such as the "top", "bottom" and back benefit the most. Perpendicular surfaces that are a bit further back, such as the "sides" are the middle-ground. End of physics-guy guess-timation...

Thanks for asking this question. I was wondering myself.

So in my case, the closet surface will be the opposite wall or the surface that is actually parallel. Then again, the sides are technically closer to the cutout. I read somewhere on AVS that the side walls weren't necessary to treat as it wasn't as effective as the back wall.

Hey guys....how does a 2 inch thick piece of foam and vinyl affect a sound wave that is over 20 foot long?
That's about 60 hertz. 30 hertz is about 40 foot long.
The way polyfill and fiberglass works is by vibrating. A lot. Causing heat making the air in the box less dense. Therefore making the air space seem bigger.
This stuff is high density foam and vinyl layered with a denim like substrate.
It's gonna do nothing inside a subwoofer box.
You are wasting money. Time and effort.
You might as well throw some marshmallows in there.

Then why would Orca (both Raven and Illusion) instructions suggest it?
