Hey fellas. I was laid-off in March and have been fortunate enough to land another job, which means I get to pocket some severance. So as the title implies, I've got a budget of $4000 that needs to be allocated to a head unit with navi, deadner, solid front components (probably wont have a rear stage), amps, everything. I want to go active up front, and only want one sub. Everything is going in a 2008 4Runner with stock non-JBL stereo.

Looking forward to what yall have in mind. Enjoy!

Ive got an amazing set of Zapco Competition Components for a very good deal, as well as a Zapco Competition 12 in woofer for sale. Both are barely broken in. Here is the thread

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/classifieds/57596-fs-zapco-goodness-updated-pics.html

All you will need is a 4 channel amp for the Active front stage, about 100 watts to the tweets and 150 to the mids, and a 750-1000 watt amp for the subs.

You will be well under 4 grand, probably around 2k, if you start with my stuff.

Are you planning on deadening the entire truck???

How many layers???

This could reduce your budget quickly, at least 1K.

Head Unit: Alpine IWA-w505.......$750.00 with optical cable......$900.00

Processor: Audison Bit One........$700.00

Tweeter: Scan-Speak Illuminator D3004/602000......$382.00

Midrange/bass: ScanSpeak 18W/4531G.......$404.00 or ScanSpeak 15W/4531G $446.00

or

Tweeter: Hybrid Audio L1v.2......$209.00

Midrange/bass: Hybrid Audio L6.......$420.00

Sub: DIYMA Reference 12".........$100.00

Amp: ZED Audio New 6 channel: $650.00 (should be shipping in about a month)

Deaden: Rammat.........$120 1 roll or $220 two rolls

Wiring: Kicker KICKER PKD1 0/1 ga. installation kit from ebay......110.00

Speaker cable: 125ft EFX 12 Ga. Black & Silver Twisted Speaker Wire from ebay: $70.00

At the top end of the price its $3578.00 That leave 422.00 bux and sound you will get from either setup PRICELESS! And more then likely you can fine most of this stuff cheaper.

Just a couple of options. There is a ton more.

Also this setup will allow you to expand in the future if you ever decided to run a 3-way front stage. Just add another amp for the sub and run the front stage on the 6 channel.

I would probably go with one layer of Damplifier Pro, and I was considering topping that with a layer of Luxury Liner Pro.

I would like to spend most of the budget on the HU, front stage, and deadening.

Here I Come: those are quite the setups. Nice work

Alpine W505 w/optical- $900
Alpine H900- $1200
JBL 2118H- $200
ID horns- $300
W15GTi- $300
Deadener- $300
Wiring/box- $250

That leaves you $550 for amps, which in my opinion, should lean toward the lesser expensive side of your setup. You've got all the processing, SQ, and output you'd ever want (in my opinion). Some people don't enjoy horns; I will never take them out of my truck, until I buy another car. ;) FWIW, I spent a combined $250 on my two Premier amps, and have 75x2 on tap for my horns and 150x2 on tap for my mids, both at 8 ohms. That's a lot of power for $250. I could have gone much less on my sub amp, but wanted to stay with Premier. If you could swing a single Zed 6 channel, that'd put you $100 over budget, which I'm sure could be shaved back elsewhere. The only downer there is I'd want 4 channels bridged to my JBL mids. :p

Headunit:
Alpine W505 w/Navi ($900)

Processor:
Alpine PXA-H701 (~$500)

Front Stage:
Dynaudio System 362, don't use the passives ($1200)

Subwoofer:
Stereo Integrity Mag ($250)

Amps:
Alpine PDX 4.100 for tweeters and midranges ($370)
Alpine PDX 2.150 for midbasses ($320)
Alpine PDX 1.600 for subwoofer ($370)

That's $3910 total for an insanely awesome setup. Replace the amps with two Alpine MRP-F600s for the front stage and one MRP-M500 for the subwoofer and the price goes to $3560.

I would probably get the new Kenwood HU mentioned above, and the KAC-X4R and KAC-X1R for amps. Budget a few hundo to do the wiring as badass as possible, and for misc. expenses. I would spend a bit on deadening: Raammat/Dynamat/SS/Cascade CLD on outer skins; maybe some Cascade VB2 on the inner door skins; foam + MLV barrier on the floor. Get whatever speakers and sub suit your preferences, and still have $ left over for hookers and blow.

Those listing $4k worth of gear are listing more like a $5k system. :) If you are truly budgeting, don't underestimate the misc. expenses that it takes to do it right.

I've found these classifieds to be one of the best places to get equipment. High quality stuff that's usually very well taken care of can be had for a huge discount over buying new. Here's what I'm getting ready to install, with almost everything bought used (i'm a bargain shopper)...

HU: Alpine W505 (bought with nav, H100 imprint, sirius tuner, and ipod cable)-$750
I'll sell the H100 and microphone to lower the net price even more.

4 way capable cfossover: PPI FRX-456 crossover-$85 (still trying to buy an H701)

Front stage: DLS Iridium 3" mid-$100
Dyn MD100 tweeters/MW160GT woofers-$230

Sub: havn't decided yet for sure, but have budgeted $200

Amps: DLS A4 for mids/tweets-previous install (think I paid $350 a few years ago)
DLS A3 for midbass-$250
DLS A6 for sub-previous install (think I paid $300...)

Wiring: pull from my previous install + another $100

Deadener: budget $600

So taking my time and finding deals, I have around $2800 as of now invested (including budget for sub, wiring, and deadener). I may sell the PPI crossover and the H100 to fund the H701, so that will raise my total investment to $3000 or so. Almost everything I have could pass for new as well. This just gives you an idea of what you can do buying used... Good luck, and have fun with it!
