1) if i have a high pass crossover at 5000hz at 12db/oct then i add in a second crossover at 5000hz also at 12db/oct what will the effect of this be ie would i get 5000hz at 12db/oct or would the result be a highpass of 500hz at 24db/oct .... on this one im guessing 5000hz at 24db/oct

2) what if i have an active crossover at 5000hz at 12db/oct and then after the amplifier i add in a passive crossover at 5000hz also at 12db/oct - what would the resultant slope be at ..... on this one im not sure

could someone who knows about crossover design please clear this up for me ..... thanks in advance

Well, using two crossovers, whether passive, active, or a combo of each results in the slope added up. In other words, yes, two crossovers at 12db, regardless of what type of crossover, would yield a final slope of 24db. I don't think I'd really recommend it, but it shouldn't hurt anything to do it.
