I'm between Alpine spx-17Ref and Pioneer TS-C720PRS
freq range for PRS is amazing
CDA-9887 will be be able to power then them without amp?

It can, but to get the most out of your speakers you will need an amp.

I saw a comparison between both sets before , but I can't not find it any more.

It would help a whole to even get a cheap budget amp, or maybe even better, a nice used amp.

I think that a set of the alpine are for sale on the forum for a great price. If you can't grab those, I would personally go with the pioneer soley on the great reviews they get.
