What do you think I should go with?

RS180 (7") + RS28A (tweeter)

or

RS225 (8") + RS28A (tweeter)?

My goal is to hook them up in an active setup. Crossover point should be around 1.5khz. I've chatted with Dylan @ Ologyaudio and I remember him stating that the 8" can't really do well in the midrange area.

Opinions, anyone?

IMO, midrange is the real *heart* of music...so, you'll want the driver with the better midrange.

how steep are you crossing the mid with?
I have the rs180 in a dipole setup crossed at 1.8khz with 48db/oct and it still sounds smooth, although the 225 might need to go lower.

the production driver shouldn't be too far off from the prototype driver tested, I'd say it's safe to use the 225 up to 1.5k as mentioned in the test.

Ologyaudio told me 1400Hz, max, ~1100Hz optimum on the RS225's.

I run mine LPed @1500Hz on 24db. Any higher and the breakup is noticeable.

I've run several different tweeters at several different points and favor a ~1800-1900Hz HP @24-36db slopes, to go with that LP on the RS225's. When I had the RS28A's, percussion was unbearable when x-overed @1500Hz, but noone else seems to have that problem...

If I had to do it over again, I'd get the RS180s for more midrange outta my woofers instead of the tweets. You can't really get away with no sub with the RS225's like I had hoped, anyways.
