dongle for streaming android audio to dsp

3967 Views 51 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  ninetysix
just finished a build, same old story, due to the integrated media system on the car I was forced to hook up the dsp to the factory amp speaker outputs. Im using a minidsp 8x12 that has optical and coax digital inputs, i need to find a solution to be able to send clean signal to the dsp from an android, or even apple phone. plenty of dongles for sale on amazon but they seem like a generic chinese gamble. Has anyone had any experience with these?

I bought one for a home dsp/speaker project from a brand called plugable that works real well, They may have something that works for you.
Here is the one I bought.
Plugable Bluetooth Audio Receiver -Enable any Speaker to Wirelessly Stream Music 819927011064 | eBay
This is the one I bought but haven't had a chance to use. But it seems to do alot.

HiFiMe DIY sell a small usb to optical bridges or of course Topping D10.

Or find an Chromecast Audio :)

This will do the trick> AMAS LD4C Mosconi America / Gladen Audio America
Or this > B-CON | Audison - car audio processors, amplifiers and speakers

Use the Audison B-Con instructions to setup your phone for LDAC Codec for the Mosconi AMAS LD4C

Topping d10. Douk and many other small black box converters all work. I’ve tried several and noticed no difference even compared to the topping d10 which I settled for because it shows rate.

Is that topping d10 bluetooth compatible. I can't seem to find where it says it is.

how are you sending power to the d10?

might just go with the b-con or AMAS mentioned by evo9, would be so simple to add to my setup. Id rather have direct lossless signal by usb to the DAC, but hell those Bluetooth codecs must be pretty good by now. Just want something that's plug and play. I'm tired and it would be nice not to have to run any more wires lol.

thanks for all the replies.

Both the B-Con and AMAS are geared for automotive use and are very easy to wire up. Direct 12 volt in with remote on and remote out. I can tell you for sure these two are a big jump up in performance over the regular aptX devices I was using prior. I did not have this kind of adjustability as see in these two screen shots, and there are more.

that is pretty cool. now just got to find somewhere to order it. all the sites look shady so far
These little boxes are all 2 channel it seems, any 4 channels? Or do you just use a splitter with no quality loss?
You can split the RCA if needed. Then use your Preamp output of your 4ch amp to your bass amp in your case. But most use digital in to a DSP. Then the DSP splits signal to what ever amp.
What about getting a Bluetooth amp?
Didn't know those were a thing!

Why just keep the amp you have and get a DSP with Bluetooth capabilities

Cuz I have no clue what's better and how it all works.
So far I understand that the benefit of DAC and all these devices, is that instead of using RCA (unbalanced, single ended) audio, it converts it to balanced (differential) input.
Unbalanced signal uses shielded rca, while balanced uses twisted pair.
And by feeding the amp with balanced signal, there's no possibility foe ground loops.
That's kinda my understanding so far, but there's so many terms, definitions and concepts, it's hard to wrap your head around it all. I guess everyone's goal is here to bypass the headunit or use the phone as headunit?
The DSP is the best possible piece of equipment you can add to your sound system. And yea if you bypass your headunit and go digital coax in you'll get the best possible sound. If you are not getting a ground loop going straight in to your amp you won't get one going DSP to amp
I'll try not to highjack this thread....if you remember, my biggest problem is that when I connect RCA cable to my amp, I'm getting the stupid static in my speakers and tweeters (without connecting the other rca end to headunit). Normally that would indicate faulty rca cables, but i've tried many differenr cables so ive ruled out bad rca cables. So far nobody can understand this phenomenon, how I'm getting static in speakers with rca cable only connected to my amp and headunit disconnected.
Hence the plan to stream to the amp directly without rca wires feeding from headunit.
But looks like blutooth amps are super rare. Even the one I linked, it has been discontinued.

I tried looking for dsp with bt capabilities but didn't find any. Do you have any in mind?
I would appreciate any suggestions to get rid of the headunit and feed the amp/dsp through Bluetooth!
Any of the new stand alone Helix DSPs have a HEC slot to add the Bluetooth module. Or find a DSP with digital in and use that for an external Bluetooth mentioned in this thread. I'm sure you can even use any of those straight in to your amp. Your amp has a 4ch or 2 ch mode which allows you to use a single RCA in and send that signal to all 4 of your channels. The it also has an preamp out to send signal to your sub amp.
