dongle for streaming android audio to dsp

3965 Views 51 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  ninetysix
just finished a build, same old story, due to the integrated media system on the car I was forced to hook up the dsp to the factory amp speaker outputs. Im using a minidsp 8x12 that has optical and coax digital inputs, i need to find a solution to be able to send clean signal to the dsp from an android, or even apple phone. plenty of dongles for sale on amazon but they seem like a generic chinese gamble. Has anyone had any experience with these?

got it from woofersetc. Yep my andsoid device automatically started out in LDAC when i fist connected to it. I just went into developer options to lock ldac into the highest quality mode, it was in variable bitrate mode by default. Havent tried other codecs though, I assume LDAC is as good as it gets

Yeah I think LDAC is as good as having rca cables so I'm just gonna get an 11 inch tablet in the front with a sim card in it and stream music to my amp via Bluetooth!
Just not sure if I need ant equalizer on my phone or not.

Just got mine today!
How did you connect it?
I'm wondering if I need to do anything with these wires:
  • Remote in
  • Aux sel
  • Master en
Anyone looking for a B-Con? I'm selling mine. For sale: Audison - B-CON HI-RES Audio Streaming 5.0...

Thanks seems to be working fine!

Just a question about resolution.
Spec sheet says BT output is up to 24bit/96 kHz max.
Tidal streaming is 44.1 kHz /16 bit

Does it mean tidal doesn't even take full advantage of this device's capabilities?
Just installed the audoson b-con. just got to say thanks to evo9. it is so simple and really effective. the biggest surprise is that i can control the volume using my phone. The info from audison is that to have volume control on the digital output from your phone you need to have all audison components linked together. but to my surprise phone volume control worked with my minidsp right out of the box.
You aren’t using a digital output from your phone 👍🏼

There is a difference between uncompressed pure digital wired and bt 24 bit/96khz you can stream via bt and a codec like ldac

as I said before bt can’t even stream actual cd quality unless it’s compressed and then it’s far from bit perfect

tidal can stream upto 96khz, not sure where you’ve read it’s only cd quality? How good the stream is with MQA in the mix is a different matter

to clarify i meant that the digital output of the audison does contain a volume signal that worked with my minidsp. I am new to using digital outputs and some sources said it doesnt usually contain volume data

audison has its proprietary "absolute volume" system to implement this volume signal though its devices, and there are settings on the dongle to activate it. so i initially thought i would have to use the minidsp remote to control volume, but i was surprised i didnt.

On the subject of streaming dongles for Android (or other) to the digital inputs on a DSP... I always used a USB-C hub with charging input, the kind intended to use with a laptop that doesn't have enough ports... And they always sucked! Short leads, low quality plugs, the slightest jiggle and it drops out ...

I just picked up one of these, a WiiM mini . Toslink straight into my c-dsp 8x12DL, and a cheap LM317t based regulator for 5v with a big heat sink on it to power it - had lots of trouble with AM radio interference with any 12v USB adaptor I've tried, not any more.

The price is right for what it does, plenty of favourable reviews, does 16/44.1 via tidal connect, with my tidal hi-fi subscription, and it can do plenty higher for those not restricted to human hearing.

There is a slight caveat tho, it would appear I'm the first person in earth to try using one in a car, or anywhere other than their home or office... It connects to my android hotspot (pixel 3a xl) fine, but once I start driving I can still keep playing thru it, but can no longer discover it. Stop for gas, the WiiM gets power cycled, and it doesn't come back when I'm not connected to my home wifi. Not sure why, the WiiM only knows he password for my hotspot wifi, but as a work around, I turn on the hotspot on my work phone se 2020, and boom, it shows up and keeps playing. I've submitted a support ticket, fingers crossed they can work that out... They are quite active with updates. There are other options for connectivity that i haven't tried yet, but if you got two phones, look no further ;)

I was actually wondering what is that "absolute volume" switch.
Should it be set to off or on?

Ok so I worked it out, you don't need two phones, bubbleupnp works like a charm streaming tidal as "flac" to the WiiM when connected to my phone's hotspot. Quite painless, and most definitely wireless
