Drz 9255 skipping

Hey guys,

My drz just began to skip tonight for no apparent reason.
It started juddering as if you were fast forwarding, but it was going at a normal pace. It should be noted that the unit was quite warm and it started having this sporatic behavior in the latter part of a 2.5 hour trip. Could it have overheated causing the laser to have problems? could this beast be out of alignment?! I'm going to check tomorow morning when the unit is cold to recreate the problem. It was skipping on the last track ( on the outer edge of the disc so the disc is spinning the fastest ) Any advice?. I have never cleaned the lense but I'm cared to use a cleaning disc and less inclined to clean it manually, unless the top is easily popped and the lense right there to be accessed. I'm really upset here.

Thanks!

stupid question....does it skips on other CDs as well? You made it sound like it was only doing it on the last song or something
actualy, you just reminded me, there was a bob segar cd that i bought a while back that had a similar problem and I returned it thinking the disc was defective. Maybe it wasn't afterall. However, I don't remember the disc from last night having a problem before. Is the drz finicky or something? Both discs are/ were flawless.
Maybe you should state your DRZ's age?
Can try few more CDs to reconfirm your problem...
Just went out to the car to try and recreate the problem. Unit was cold and played the disc flawlessly, at least the last problematic track did.
Mine usually is pretty sensitive like this. It plays most discs no problem, but tends to skip a bit if it gets too hot, or if its really cold outside. Also some discs, like Radiohead's in Rainbows disc won't even play...I had to burn a copy of it to listen in the car.
A lot of CD players were like this. My Nak CD40 would do it. Lots of reflected heat inside a CD player. Should have made them upside down...
Okay now bob Marley is skipping after a short drive! Argh! It never did this before. My unit is from 04, got it mint second hand. It was used in a show car and supposedly has low Hours on it. I'm really considering a lense cleaner as i'm out right now and can go get one. What a stain on An otherwise beutiful day. Excuse the typos as I am on my phone. Should I just try a lense cleaner? The unit skips even though it's not hot. WTF
Should I at least try a cleaner first? Don't want to waste time and money if I don't have to. It's worth a shot don't you guys think?

EDIT: I chickened out on the cleaner after reading horror stories of scratching the laser. I did a reset. Toggled between 48 and 96khz and the deck has been behaving since. Survivor also gave it a few hicupps coming home. So far so good. Keep your fingers crossed! Btw what does the unit do
When it performs its "self check"?

Forget it. Skipping on whatever I throw in it. Is the laser right there if I pop the hood to clean it the right way? ( not using a disc with brush) I really don't feel like giving clarion 300 bucks or something crazy to clean my laser. Little advice? Afterall this is diy mobile audio. I can handle cleaning it if I don't have to do a complete tear down to do so.
