Hello,

I recently testmounted my Dynaudio 650's in my dashboard, along with L3se and tweeters from my JBL GTI660 set.. Now, that I've heard the character of the Dyn's, I intend to upgrade to Esotar midranges or/and tweeters.

If I buy just 110's, they 'd be installed in the positions of the L3's, then ignore the current tweeters, new A-pillars would be fabricated (see photo).

But, what if I bought the 430's and use my Infinity ribbons above them?

I could, buy also both, if someone who has heard a 2-way front (650+110) and a 3-way 650+430+110 and says, that the 3-way is better/worse - reason? Processing is done via the Pioneer P9 combo.

Are the 430's worth the money to be a link between the 650 and the 110?

Opinions?

Thanks for your advice, guys.

Regards

If you're gonna do 3-way front, go 110/430 and squeeze the MW182 in the door. IMO the 650 is kind of a waste if you only use it under 300hz, might as well replace it with a monster. That would be my choice if I ever go 4-way active...and then "retire" my 650s to my other car with some AMTs. Half because the 650 is my favorite car 6.5" that I have ever used and half because I could never bring myself to sell them.

I am about to do 110/650 in my truck which should hold me over for at least a little while :)

BTW 650's on your dash is SICK, love it! Never seen an istall like that, now I want to take my dash apart to experiment.

A friend of mine suggested to try that out - i must confess that I wasn't prepared to go down this route, but when I first tried my 600 JBL GTI's - they sounded incredible, that's why the decision was made to go on the dash with Dyn's.

The GTI's are also a bit larger, so just testfitting took 10 minutes moore :)

To mount speakers on the dash eliminates also door-rattles, less TC-ing..

@Architect7 - thanks for the input, but the 182's are too big to mount in the door, although the doors have been prepared for a badass midbass.

I'm also leaning towards the 110's, then test a simple 2-way or play aroung with a 3-way front with the HAT midrange..

My thought is this... having used the MD130 and being one of my all time favorite tweeter- never having heard the 110- I would keep it simple and just do the 110/650 combo. no sense adding a ton more tuning in with such an outstanding midbass so high up in the car. if you are dead set on keeping it 3 way as others have said the 650 is a waste. Go with a bigger less expensive midbass and the 430 midrange. I would add a less expensive metal tweeter at that point.

I wanted to keep the stock look on the doorpanels, but even with the 650's that is not entirely possible - because of the mounting depth - stock speakers are 2" deep - go figure (this install will be in my second car - Nissan Note, you guys wouldn't believe the possibilities this car has to offer - easy dis- and reassemlby)..

Fabricating doorpanels for 8" or even moore - just isn't my intention at the moment and since I bought 650's - I'm not going to sell them right away :)

What I have at home still, are Infinity ribbon tweeters, and the HAT L3se's (already put these up for sale today), so many combinations would be possible.

But, today I'm going to test the 650's in combination with the 660GTI tweeters as a 2-way active, though the 110 should outperform these with ease. Hard to know, since no one in my wider neighborhood has Esotars..

And, one more plus, I already own the 1200, so a 3-way all together should sound awesome, as I am really satisfied with the performance of the sub.

If one wanted a simple 2-way front stage and be done with it...the 650/110 combo would be it. The 110 is very comfortable playing low, and the 650 does well playing high so they mesh very well together. Introducing the 430 (or similar) has its advantages, but will depend greatly on install & tune. Im running the 2-way and have been happy with it.
Buy the 110 and try it with the 650's

Thank for your input, guys.

I tested the 650's with LP set @ 2,5kHz instead of just 250Hz.. I removed the L3se from the setup, leaving only the GTI660 tweeter crossed @ 3,15kHz.

The 650's sounded incredible, they also seem very happy with the wattage they receive from the VRX 2.400.. As it seems - I will order the 110's and complete a 2-way + sub.

Maybe offtopic, but since it does maybe affect "sound":

any suggestions with speakercables? At the moment there is nothing spectacular in my car, but I'd like to do the right thing, if you know what I mean..

QED, Kimbercable, .. A friend offered something he made on his own, out of pure silver leads (don't know the price yet)..

I am aware, that there are a lot of opinions out there regarding speaker cables, I do not wish to start a debate around this, but still, since I am not using manufacturers original cables in my system already, my thoughts were exactly the same - I'd have to invest a serious amount of money to gain "something".

Guess I'll stay with my current speaker cables. I suppose I'd achieve more changing RCA's from the DEQ-P9 to my amps anyway..

All Audison VRX:

4.300 for TW and mids, painted in black, tuned / modded for mid/high freqs,
2.400 for midbass, also painted in black,
2.400 CS EX for subwoofer dutys.

So, if I go just for a pair of tweeters, I guess Ill have to find just another 2.400 to replace the 4.300..

For 2 reasons: quality - and space - they all fit into the spare tire compartment..

Yeah especially given the labor involved with upgrading speaker cable. And high voltage AC is so good at noise rejection, $$$ is better spent on RCAs that are slim but well shielded.

It's just amazing how these 650's sound on the dash.. incredible piece of engineering.

And yes, it would be a waste to have them cut off @ 200-300 Hz.

And I have also been amazed at the recommended X-over settings for the Esotar components. ..

I have considered this, too, but I seriously doubt, that putting approx 350-ish watts to a woofer in IB would be too much.

I have no problem though using the 4.300 just for the tweeters, although the 6ohm drivers would be very happy with a 2.400 ..
