How much different is the Dyn's that were put in Volvo's and the such compared to the ones that Dynaudio sells for car audio use? Like a System 222 etc....

Is there a really big difference? I ask for the price shows they are pretty different but didn't know if there was much of a difference in them. I'm guessing there is but figured I'd ask to make sure from somebody that might know from experience.

I know that the Volvo speaker baskets tend to be made from stamped steel instead of cast (at least on the woofers), and I'd imagine there are other cost saving/bulk manufacturing differences as well, but would LOVE to know the details as well

There have been a few threads on this before but the basic idea is that the Volvo system is an Esotec 342 3-way with optional 9" woofers from their architectural lineup (in-wall woofers). Great woofers if you can find a pair in good condition, I've been wanting to buy a pair and throw in my front doors as a cheap alternative to MW172/MW182, they are free-air monsters. I've used the MW162GT from the front stage of a Volvo and they are identical to a standard retail MW162GT.

I am aware that the VW Dynaudio systems may actually be a cheaper variant but no hard details on that.

I feel like Jim Carey from Dumb and Dumber when the woman says to him that it's more like one out of a million.

So Architect7, so you are saying there's a chance on the Dynaudio's from a Volvo being good, YEAH! :laugh:
