Fiberglassing - sand between coats?

First of all, hi! :)

I'm having a go at making a sub enclosure.

Of all the tutorials on making your own fiberglass sub boxes, i'm yet to find one that says to sand back between layering sessions.

But I did read something somewhere about it 'waxing', when it dries, whatever that is.

I'm using poly resin, and 450 (gram?) fiberglass matting.

I assume I don't need to sand back between 'sessions' ?

you only need to sand between layers if the resin you are using contains wax. if it does the wax will form a seal in a manner of speaking and smooth over the surface. this makes it hard for the following layer to adhere to the dry layer thus promoting separation. bondo brand contains wax and that is why most people frown on using it.

Very helpful indeed. I also am going to have a go at fiberglassing soon. I also purchased Bondo brand resin (from Home Depot) since that was all that was available. But will now give a good rough up with sandpaper between layers. Thanks for the info.
