hOhOhO!!! Nice to meet everybody :D

Here and there I've messaged some of the members and they've been a great help. Anyways, I thought I would post for the first time so don't smack me around too much.

It seems like every day I learn about twice what I knew the day before. Prior to getting into this my only knowledge was based on what I saw my older brother put together while getting through high school. I fondly remember him using A/D/S 325is in my beretta :)

So that's the basis for the new install. Looking at it now, I'm kind of unhappy with the money spent on components vs. what I could have...none the less, trial and error is golden...so I'm gonna push forward.

System components thus far:

Alpine 9887 -- the only item installed at this point

SAX-100.4D -- Sundown Audio = good people

Cadence TXA-750D & 3002 -- WRX/Z28...stand up guy!!!! Thanks for all the help up to this point. I grabbed these from him

AES 10" Subs -- same as http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/member-product-reviews/51256-aes-10-subwoofer-budget-sq.html

Subs were also bought from WRX, he's been great to buy from

Front Speakers -- 346cs

Rear "Fill" -- 325is. I read a thread by werewolf and wanna use that R+L+/R-L- technique.

Initially, since I'm new I figured passive. Well, after installing the 9887 and began playing with TA, L/R, L=R, and other parameters I'm realizing that I would love to go active :) Factory speakers sound better than ever.

But I'm in it this far...so I'm gonna keep on truckin. However, keeping with passive x-overs doesn't seem to be a huge issue and I was thinking of adding an Audiocontrol EQL between the 9887 and amps

Good idea?

I seem to have quite a few options with the equipment I've purchased. I need to finish the install and hear it already. The options are driving me crazy :)

At a later date I can always switch the system over to active but I think I will see decent results with what I have.

Btw, SAX-100.4 will power 346 & 325 while TXA-3002 will power the subs. Subs are in ~.7 cubic enclosure(per side) prior to loading.

That's it. So far, I'd like to say thanks to the forum, you guys are a great bunch.

Any tips, comments, or criticism are very much welcomed whether it's install or choice of product.

Looks like things have changed again. Now I'm looking into a DQX instead of EQL. I'm a bit skeptical though. It has 3 x-overs and I'm using 2-ways.

I thought this might be a nice step towards the direction of active but then I think I'd be losing rear fill. At least, I can't conceive how I'd power the 325's for rear w/o another Amp.

Was there actually a question some where in there, or were you just thinking out loud??

Not trying to be rude, but is there actually something you need help with?

Your 9887 has the ability to go active (maybe you knew that already) so you wouldn't need to add the AudioControl piece. The only advantage from a tuning standpoint you'd get from external processing over your 9887 would be more bands of EQ or 4-way active. I'd suggest using all 4 channels of your 100.4 to run your ADS comps up front actively, with no rear fill. Then try your HU in two-way (passive) with the rear fill, using the front two channels of the amp for the front comps, and the rears for rear fill, and see which setup you like better. I'm pretty sure the first option is going to be more to your liking. ;) Welcome to the forum!

I apologize for the confusion. It is a bit convoluted. I attempted to resolve that by highlighting my current issues in bold. It doesn't show up too well.

Thanks for the advice Mikey!!! Yup, I sure knew it was active and after playing with it, I wanted more ;)

The bigger issue seemed to be EQ and not x-over points. The 100.4 has cross overs built in and I was thinking of just going with those active as you stated and using all 4 channels for the 346.

I was sidetracked by an argument for rear fill. Anyways, I know of a guy who seems to know his way around tuning and thought it prudent to give him access to more EQ.

I still need to read up on difference between parametric and graphic EQ. It seems a bit silly that Alpine included both.

Parametric gives you the ability to boost/drop over a range of frequencies, depending on the Q (width) you choose, whereas a graphic EQ only boosts/drops whatever particular frequency you choose. You can select either a 5 band PEQ, or 7 band GEQ. You tend to be able to "smooth out" your sound a little better with a PEQ, unless you have a lot of bands of graphic to work with, such as on the AudioControl EQ you're looking at, an Alpine H701, RF 3Sixty.2, and other processors. Most headunits don't have a lot of EQ, although a Premier 800/880PRS has 15 bands of graphic equalization that can be independently adjusted for L/R, which is cool.

leave the rear fill alone for now...

possibly forever...

when you go to a concert and see "rear fill" speakers let me know. or if you go to a concert and the bass player stands in the back :O
I think that's where I'm headed for now. I have a thing for going head first into everything I do. But trial and error seems to be the road of choice for CA. Thanks for the response Falk, I value any experience you can afford me. The forum has been a great help so far :D Hopefully I'll be giving back one day

That makes perfect sense. While playing I noticed I was receiving better results with PEQ. My assumption was that Graphic was independent from nearby freq's and due to its 7 bands, quite inept.

My 100.4 will be in on friday. I can't wait to move forward. Thanks again Mike. You're good people!
