Exactly. I've dealt with dozens of speakers over the years and have never seen anything like this that wasn't a direct cause of physical damage. I installed these drivers in the doors and they were perfect when the doors were closed up. There is nothing in front of the speaker to have caused the damage. Regarding the cone material, they are composite cellular fiber cone (Treated paper).

Any chance something slipped past the window into the door? That's definitely some weird damage.

There was nothing loose down inside the door. I did see a small but of evidence of previous moisture on the back of the speaker basket. I don't think liquid could cause this type of damage though.
