Genesis Profile Sub Monoblock: Some Queries

6202 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Lars Ulriched
I just happened to find a Genesis Profile Sub in very good condition, and I had a couple of queries about it.

1. What does Genesis watts mean? I know it means the amp is underrated, but what is its typical power rating?

2. Class G: Will it have a problem? Overheating etc?

3. What is its damping factor? (cant find these specs anywhere)

4. There are 2 models available, out of which, one comes with 2 fuses rated @ 30A each, and one of them comes with one 40A fuse. What's the difference between those two models?

5. Last but not the least, what's the use of the Parametric EQ on all the Genesis amps?

Typically there is about a 25% difference between rated and actual power. The other way to look at it is, that all ratings are at 14.4v. So if its rated at 1x550 watts @ 14.4 and 2 ohms; but it actually makes say 1x700 watts @ 14.4 and 2 ohms, then at a real world 13.8-14v you will get the 550 watts.

Don't know and it's irrelevant in anycase.

There are two models in the Profile range. Profile sub and Profile sub ultra. The former has 2 fuses and the latter has three.

It will let you pick a frequency where you can boost a bit. It's the same as the bass boost function on most amps.

I'm running one of these amps myself, lovingly fettled by Gordon (Who basically is/was Genesis by the way), and its a great amp. Excellent power for such a small footprint, and the sound quality is very good.
